Return to Ghana

https://africanwoods.wordpress.com/2016/12/29/return-to-ghana/comment-page-1

December 29, 2016. By Sister Diane Wood. After five weeks in England we are now back in Techiman. This is what we saw as I unlocked the gates. The young missionaries had a service activity and mowed the lawns, cleaned up the gardens and it looked wonderful although incredibly dry. The sign was very touching. Akwaaba is Tri for welcome. We are back in Ghana and I had temporarily forgotten some of the things I dislike here. Right now it’s the season of the winds of the Harmattan. December 29, 2016 at 7:29 ...

Observations of life in Ghana

https://africanwoods.wordpress.com/2016/10/09/observations-of-life-in-ghana

October 9, 2016. By Sister Diane Wood. Observations of life in Ghana. This is a main road in Techiman. These are Brahma cows, a mother her young calf and another cow. We drove past them and they were all asleep on the median strip and one on the road. We returned about thirty minutes later. At least once a month there is a street parade. It is usually accompanied by a band or music played on a sound system. This is a school group celebrating? With all the singing, dancing, loud music and razzmatazz.

Contrasts of Life

https://africanwoods.wordpress.com/2016/11/18/contrasts-of-life

November 18, 2016. By Sister Diane Wood. On Friday the 11th of November we left Techiman with England as our destination. I drove as Rick can not drive due to the extreme pain from the herniated disc in his back. Driving on the main road was very scary for me and possibly for the other motorists too! Contrasts of Ghana and England. Below Longford Park in Stratford, Greater Manchester. Ricks Mum lives in a street by this park. I saw a squirrel running through the leaves and then up a tree when...Below Aft...

September 29, 2016. By Sister Diane Wood. A Riot of colour in cloth available in Ghana. Sister Wood in the Woodin cotton dress. This is a very modern design in the fabric. Another type of cloth is called Kente. Weavers of Ghana convey history, philosophy, ethics, oral literature, codes of conduct and religious beliefs through ceremonial weaving of special patterns and colours. Samples of Kente cloth date back to the eleventh century. LIFE IN GHANA IS A DIFFERENT PACE. Observations of life in Ghana. Fill ...

http://halladaysghana.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 17, 2016. Funerals, Weddings and a baby naming ceremony. Funerals in Ghana are usually on the weekends, but the celebrating goes on for 4-5 days. They're marked by big red and black canopies like these. They will have speakers, professional mourners, much singing and food or alcohol is served. This is a cemetery. They can be found a long roadsides and are usually covered by thick foilage and trees. Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Our Missionary Sisters like their photo ops too! A favorite of mine.

Veronica is the cook for the Mission home and this is one of her twins, Brian. His sister is Briana. They are about two and a half years old. A distant cousin I am sure, from Brigham City Utah. It's a long walk or taxi ride for some to get to Church and back, so refreshments are in order. Not sure it makes sense to chop...

The spirit of Africa rests in all our Hearts. We depend on the planet that ensures our survival. We cannot live without planet Earth. Planet Earth can survive and, indeed prosper, without us? Seek Contentment and not Happiness, for happiness is an illusion, it is here one moment and gone the next. Be as the willow, not as the oak. The willow withstands a storm as it will bend. An Oak resists a storm and can be torn from the ground. To build a bridge we need help from the other bank.
