...seeking serenity: Mech-a-Me
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2011/02/mech-me.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. Olivia has needed a bit of work lately. Today I got to work on her in a "professional" environment, as opposed to the front yard! Our local Landy expert kindly suggested I sort out what needs sorting under his watchful eye. His exact words were "We'll fix it, but you're going to WORK! So me, my tools and my truck headed down there this afternoon to do just that. I guess if ever I need to change careers (yet AGAIN! I could actually consider mechanic. :-). Car Share South Africa.

...seeking serenity: Success
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2015/07/success.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. What, exactly is success? I'm 40-something. Should I count success as (at this age) owning property, driving a snazzy paid-off car, never counting cents at the Pick 'n Pay tills, and being able to take holidays overseas? If so, I'm definitely not successful! Not to speak of in years. Definitely not overseas. Even a weekend off is pushing it. So am I successful? Yet still so often I feel like a complete failure. So how do I measure success? That I still have the ability to drea...

...seeking serenity: This Old House
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2014/12/this-old-house.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. And thus it was we moved. Rather suddenly, before our lease was officially up at the old place, but in time - as the new owner was getting itchy feet to start his renovations. It was time to go. Just a column of red bricks, an old carpet, and slate surrounds. But hey, why not. Investigate all options and all that. But there's something about this place. Then there's the room available to plot and scheme. Once the clearing-up has happened, there is more than enough space fo...

...seeking serenity: Time
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2015/01/time.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. The trouble with having a minute or two of peace in which to actually form thoughts, is that you actually form thoughts. Even worse, in my case, you not only form thoughts, but you start solving the world's problems - and then move on to all sorts of interesting, creative, awesome and fun things to do, try, make - and then move on to places to go, things to see,. It all just kinda snowballs quite frankly. Like I said, having time to think is actually quite problematic!

...seeking serenity: On not giving a flying...
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2015/01/on-not-giving-flying.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. On not giving a flying. For the past few months I have had a "lump in the throat" feeling. Antibiotics have been applied by a pharmacist for assumative-diagnosis "severe sinusitis", with no result. Some days it's bad enough that I can barely swallow and have trouble breathing, accompanied by soreness and all sorts of other kak. It comes and goes though, and I've reached the conclusion it's stress induced. At 1/18/2015 11:07:00 PM. Sunday, January 18, 2015.

THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. In South Africa we've moved on from talking about the weather, to talking about loadshedding. If there's nothing else to complain about, this will quickly become the go-to topic across social media! But this is Africa. We're adaptable, and we've been working around self-centered inept governance for generations. What we're getting very good at as a nation:. Alternative entertainment. Some have reported the kids have started playing outdoors. Candlelight dinners. Plan ahead...

...seeking serenity: Retirement
http://serenitydawn.blogspot.com/2015/03/retirement.html
THE QUEST FOR THE ZEN ZONE. I am really looking forward to retirement. But not perhaps for the reasons you may imagine. Since I went the self-employed route, every day has been basically a mad rush. On duty 24x7, one gets completely bound up by work, work-related thoughts, work tasks, and circling that single theme. Weekdays, week nights and weekends - it's all the same. Bowls on a Tuesday? Soup on a Thursday? Afternoon naps and still in bed by 8pm? No, that life is not for me. I'd go mad. I just hope by...
