77 degrees south: it's a mad, mad, mad, mad station
http://aggieinantarctica.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-mad-mad-mad-mad-station.html
Thursday, September 30, 2010. It's a mad, mad, mad, mad station. I wouldn't mind being "stuck" here waiting for seals for a few more weeks. But, alas, the real world is calling. Time to take all this data and do something with it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wake up, time to travel. View my complete profile. Current and Related Projects. Weddell Seal Project, UCSC. 77 degrees south: changes
http://aggieinantarctica.blogspot.com/2010/09/changes.html
Friday, September 24, 2010. It was an Airbus flight. No C-17 for these guys! Alas The cargo flight won't get in until the 28th, unless there are more weather delays. Anyway. Station population was 526 before the first Main Body flight arrived (78% male). I'm going to have to check the board today for new population info. It's expected to make it to 1,300 this year (rumor mill). View out window to the ice. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wake up, time to travel. View my complete profile.
77 degrees south: and now we play the waiting game
http://aggieinantarctica.blogspot.com/2010/09/and-now-we-play-waiting-game.html
Sunday, September 26, 2010. And now we play the waiting game. The sun did not shine. It was too cold to play. So we sat in the house. All that cold, cold, windy day. I sat there with Sally. We sat there, we two. And I said, 'How I wish. We had something to do! Too windy to go out. And too cold to play ball. So we sat in the house. We did nothing at all. So all we could do was to. And we did not like it. Not one little bit.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wake up, time to travel.
77 degrees south: end of season: time to leave
http://aggieinantarctica.blogspot.com/2010/10/end-of-season-time-to-leave.html
Tuesday, October 12, 2010. End of season: time to leave. Main Body is almost in full swing. By the end of the week there will be no more of this last year's winter-overs left on station. We are scheduled to leave today, but there's already been a three hour weather delay. The same thing happened on Monday and they still made it out. Let's see if we are as lucky. Weather seems fine. not sure why the delay. Bright lights, late nights. Herb room, as it should be. Herb room, as is. Know this, but they are al...

ARCH 689 INVADER BIM: March 2010
http://ribbit-ribbit-gd.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 7, 2010. Project One: Final Renderings (for now). This was definitely a learning experience. It's kinda like decorating a cake for the first time. all the elements are there, but it doesn't look as great as the picture in the magazine: a tad lopsided, leaves and flowers a bit deformed, perhaps even out of proportion. But, it's my first one, and I'm impressed with what this program can do. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wake up, time to travel. View my complete profile. ARCH 689 Course Home.
ARCH 689 INVADER BIM: Project 2: Cabin Porch Parametrics
http://ribbit-ribbit-gd.blogspot.com/2010/04/cabin-porch-parametrics.html
Saturday, April 10, 2010. Project 2: Cabin Porch Parametrics. So, I know the porch overhang can't really grow depending on the sun angle, but this is just an exercise. These images are of different lengths of the porch overhang, depending on the angle of the sun on the summer solstice. I chose the times of 9am, 12pm, and 3pm based on their use for LEED guidelines. The object of the porch shading is to protect the south wall from rain, but not to cover the porch in shade on the rare sunny days. The overha...
ARCH 689 INVADER BIM: February 2010
http://ribbit-ribbit-gd.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Project One: Preliminary Drawings and Building Description. This building is a log cabin structure in remote south central coastal Alaska. The site, six miles from Cordova and less than 60 miles from the site of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, is accessible only by boat or float plane. It is built on a tidal island on the edge of Alice Cove; the island itself is rock covered by gravel, forest, and a peat bog. To get to this point took seven years,. Of the existing windows, an...
ARCH 689 INVADER BIM: April 2010
http://ribbit-ribbit-gd.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. The Final Project: Images and Descriptions. This is on the Vernal equinox at 1pm. The large overhang (11ft) protects the south wall. The low angle of the sun this time of year (less than 29 degrees) requires that the shading device be impressively sized. During the winter, the sun angle and light intensity is so low that no shading is required. Even if you wanted to , the sun never reaches above 6 degrees, and then only for an hour or so. So a simple overhang would never b...Final...

ARCH 689 INVADER BIM: Pictures of Possible Material Choices
http://ribbit-ribbit-gd.blogspot.com/2010/04/pictures-of-possible-material-choices.html
Friday, April 9, 2010. Pictures of Possible Material Choices. Here is an image of what we're thinking of for the stairs. I'd prefer something a bit lighter looking (I was looking at photos of some of those Alvar Aalto stairs), but this is what we got instead. We're still in negotiations. I'd like to include a window seat for the big window in the living room. I couldn't find a photo of exactly what I'd like, but here is an image that captures the general idea. Aggie's Latest Adventure
This is my personal blog documenting the grand adventure that I had during the spring and summer of 2010! It started with a return trip to Ghana and then moved to travelling to Italy, a Mediterranean Cruise, and finally my brother's wedding! It was a heck of a year! There was an error in this gadget.
