Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Sunday, August 15, 2010. Summer, Stone fruit and Good to the Grain. Summer 2010 has been great for stone fruits - cherries, white peaches, nectarines, apricots and plums have been available everywhere and I don't know if its my summer 'goggles' talking but the crop of stone fruits available in my local area has been a little cheaper and a lot sweeter than usual! Good to the Grain. Cherry and Apricot Compote. 2 tablespoons of water. Subscribe to: Pos...

Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Thursday, September 15, 2011. Homemade burgers have become a bit of a permanent fixture in our house - we eat them at least once a week. They are easy and convenient and in a effort to make them as healthy as possible we stick to a few basic rules:. Instead of burger buns we use wholemeal or whole/multi grain baguettes (this works well for a crowd as you can make a couple of baguettes into burgers and carve then up sub-way style! Place the juice of ...

Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Monday, May 23, 2011. Eating and Drinking in Manly, Australia. A few years back my Sister left the hustle and hype of North London and eventually found her self living in the uber cool beachside suburb of Manly, Australia. On my recent sojourn, my sis showed me around her town and introduced me to her life as a Sydney-sider. Some of the highlights were High Tea at Gunners Barracks. Macroons at Adriano Zumbo. And Cocktails at Miss Marley's. That feat...

White Doves: Trouble in traditional paradise...
http://emiliedoves.blogspot.com/2011/03/trouble-in-traditional-paradise.html
The dove, on silver pinions, winged her peaceful way." (James Montgomery, Pelican Island). Wednesday, 2 March 2011. Trouble in traditional paradise. Day off on Monday too. I'm starting to think that maybe all these long weekends are actually due to an inherent inability of the Spanish to recover from their hangovers as quick as us Brits! And seen as I'm a bit of stickler when it comes to authority, there persistent advice on how I should live my life is, how should I say it, getting on my last nerve!

International Foodie: January 2010
http://international-foodie.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Monday, January 18, 2010. Profiterole Pancakes …. We had a group of friends over for dinner a few weeks back and I decided to consult one of my many Donna Hay Magazines to get some dessert inspiration. Soon after starting I realised that the key ingredient in this recipe was time. Because it all went horribly wrong and the only thing that saved me was that I had factored in enough time to come up with a contingency plan! 1 - I was using a new 3 ply ...

http://international-foodie.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Thursday, February 18, 2010. When flicking through their cookbooks, you get a feeling that you are actually reading their personal travel diaries, featuring intimate accounts of their adventures complimented by exquisite photography and a recipe or two! I fell in love with Turquoise. Basically crescent shaped pastries that are filled with feta, parmesan and dill. 100g thick Greek/Natural yoghurt. 125g melted butter (at room temperature). Combine the...

International Foodie: March 2010
http://international-foodie.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Saturday, March 27, 2010. Jamie Oliver features in most cookbook collections. This may be due to the sheer volume of books he has published (he has averaged about 1 book a year for the last 10 years). Another reason may be that he is so well marketed, when you think of cookbooks you automatically think of Jamie. Or it may be that you just quite like him! I have five of his books, but my stand out. The thing I love the most about this book is that it...

http://international-foodie.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Sunday, December 20, 2009. Lovely Little Linzers . Last Sunday I went into a baking frenzy and ended up experimenting with a few cookie/biscuit recipes in an effort to try and create my own Linzer Biscuits and the recipe below is what my efforts resulted in. I have to admit that they aren’t as good as the café, but they are pretty close and hopefully after a bit more practice I’ll get them even closer…. 190; cup sugar. 1 cup plan flour. Place on bak...

Devoted to Food, Inspired to Cook, Encouraged to Write. Saturday, October 30, 2010. Total Greek Yoghurt and the perfect Afternoon Cake. I recently discovered a fantastic recipe from the January 2010 edition: Yoghurt and Almond cake. I chose to use Total Greek Yoghurt. Its been a favourite for a while, the appeal being that it has many variants - Full Fat, 2% or even 0% - so its perfect if you love the decadence of Greek Yoghurt yet don't want the guilt of full fat! Yoghurt and Almond Cake. I never would ...
