The Hawley Clan: April 2014
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Up until this point in the school year, I have been creating our curriculum. I've planned unit studies around different topics that my kids enjoy and it has been a lot of fun! The downside is the amount of time it has taken for me to prepare the lessons. There have been so many fun projects so far. I don' t have pictures to document them all, but here are a few select pictures:. We learned about braille, and the kids wrote their names in braille using glued lentils. This is an ...

The Hawley Clan: To Test or Not to Test
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/09/to-test-or-not-to-test.html
Monday, September 29, 2014. To Test or Not to Test. When people find out we homeschool, there are several questions that typically get asked. One of the top questions is, "How do you know that they are learning enough? Do you have tests? Here's just one example. Today, our neighbor came over to play legos. Not sure how on Earth the conversation got going in this direction. I'm assuming they were reenacting a battle scene because that's what boys do. This is what I overheard:. I spend my time chasing arou...

The Hawley Clan: March 2014
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 13, 2014. School has been a little less organized this month. We've done lessons when we can. We've read a lot, and have done a TON of science experiments. We've even been practicing our sign language. But life has been CRAZY in our house, so we've had less chunks of school time and more "an activity here and there" time. It fits life patterns so easily. Here are a few pics from A's 7th birthday! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have the greatest job in the world! One of our goals as a famil...

The Hawley Clan: March 2013
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 18, 2013. Wednesday, March 6, 2013. There's something that has been on my heart that I wanted to share. Mostly, I'm just sharing it with myself since the purpose of this blog is to document what's going on with our family. But if you happen to be reading this, here's a little glimpse into my thoughts. When people hear that we are adopting. and even more-so that we are adopting a sibling group of two (or three! But here's what's been on my mind so much. We can't do it either. I am convinced ...

The Hawley Clan: The beginning...
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-beginning.html
Monday, September 15, 2014. Many people ask how life is doing now that the adoption is over. But the reality is, the process is just beginning. Adoption isn't about paperwork, fingerprints, foreign governments and months of waiting. It's about kids. Adoption is adding a child into our family. The past two and a half years were the prequel. We have finally reached the beginning of the process. But through it all, he's ours to love and parent and train. He's not a blank slate. He has baggage we hav...I spe...

The Hawley Clan: June 2013
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 27, 2013. Today, C spiked a fever out of nowhere, so we laid low and relaxed at home. But we did take a quick trip to the library to pick up some new books. As I was checking out, the guy at the counter asked if my kids were registered for the summer reading program. Such an innocent question, but it made me laugh inside. I smiled and politely responded, "Oh, yes. My kids love to read.". I LOVE that my boys love to read. It makes my teacher heart leap for joy. And more than that, I...This ...

The Hawley Clan: FINALLY!
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/09/finally.html
Sunday, September 14, 2014. For safety and legal reasons, I haven't posted on here too often about this, but our family has been in the process of adoption for 2 1/2 years. It has been a roller coaster, but all of the ups and downs were worth it. On August 14th, in a country far away, a judge ruled that we are suitable parents and we officially became a family of five! The Hawley Clan: Family Fall Updates
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/09/family-fall-updates.html
Monday, September 29, 2014. It's hard to believe that N has only been in the country for less than 6 weeks! We have found a good balance of fast-paced fun and slow-paced family bonding. Despite the more relaxed pace of life, he has had a few big adventures. Labor Day brought N's first trip to Kelley's Island! We've taken a few trips to the zoo. During the first trip, N was pretty much expressionless. I guess he was taking it all in? The one of them in front of the flowers at the zoo is the best!

The Hawley Clan: Medieval Madness
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-past-month-has-been-medieval-month.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2014. The past month has been Medieval Month in our house. I love teaching our boys with Unit Studies. They really bring to life the time period that we are studying. The boys learned a lot about the feudal system, castles, knights and monarchs, and had a blast doing it. We studied Medieval cathedrals and then made tissue paper stained glass crafts. While those dried, we made stained-glass cookies. Yum! They enjoyed setting up an enemy army and attacking them with "cannon" balls from...

The Hawley Clan: Happy Birthday, N
http://thehawleyclan.blogspot.com/2014/09/happy-birthday-n.html
Sunday, September 14, 2014. Happy Birthday, N. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I have the greatest job in the world! I spend my time chasing around three energetic boys and trying to catch up with them long enough to train them up to be men after God's own heart. We're also on the waiting list to adopt two more children, and we are praying for the day our precious children come home. And most importantly, we love Jesus. He's our purpose and our everything. Thanks for stopping by! Happy Birthday, N.
