A Heart Like Ava. Ava endured many surgeries and procedures throughout her life including:. November 19, 2013: Hybrid Stage 1 heart surgery (placement of pulmonary artery bands, PDA stent, and ASD stent). November 29, 2013: bilateral choanal atresia repair with stent placement. December 10, 2013: Nasal stent removal. December 18, 2013: Nasal endoscopy and dilation. December 30, 2013: Nasal endoscopy; dilation not needed. January 7, 2014: G-tube placement and Ladd's procedure for intestinal malrotation.

A Heart Like Ava. The Childrens Heart Foundation. Cincinnati Children's Heart Institute Encyclopedia. Congenital heart defects are abnormalities in the structure of the heart which are present at birth. 1 in 110 babies are born with some type of CHD, making it the #1 birth defect. CHD's are the #1 cause of birth defect related deaths. About 40,000 babies are born with a CHD every year in the United States. Thousands of those will not survive to their first birthday.

A Heart Like Ava. How "A Heart Like Ava" is helping. A Heart Like Ava has two primary goals: supporting Congenital Heart Defect Research, and helping families affected by CHD's. Since November 2014, A Heart Like Ava has donated. AHLA helps families affected by CHD's in several ways. Our main family support project is our care package program. In 2015 we were able to deliver 60 care packages to Cincinnati Children's Hospital CICU for families that often have long hospital stays with their child.
