Upgrade to paid account and never see ads again! Packing up the sewing box. May 16th, 2010 at 2:02 PM. May 2nd, 2010. May 2nd, 2010 at 8:40 AM. Armed with factual and illustrative evidence regarding the shape, the basic structure and the fabrics likely to have been used by the medieval stitcher when constructing undergarments, the next task in the project is of course to draft a usable, working pattern from which to create the medieval 'chemise'. Tools of the trade. May 2nd, 2010 at 10:14 AM. One of the most obvious differences in equipment was in the style and design of the scissors. Rather than the ...

A location fit for Jane Austen.... - A Hidden Layer

http://ahiddenlayer.livejournal.com/5802.html

A location fit for Jane Austen. May 9th, 2010 at 2:05 PM. How lucky to be able to stitch in a place where the feet of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet have trod! This particular National Trust property was used for some of the filming of the BBC's production of 'Pride and Prejudice' 1995 and as the room has such a positive aura of Jane Austen about it, it provided the perfect location for the regency stitcher. Lacock Abbey - Wiltshire 2010. One possible way of wearing the corset.

May 3rd, 2010. May 3rd, 2010 at 11:40 AM. In direct contrast to the fine almost flimsy single layer of the earlier period undergarments, the Tudor 'body' required multi layers of fabrics in order to create a sturdy boned garment. Boning channels were stitched through all of the fabric layers and the boning material was either sandwiched between the course inner lining layers, or in the case of hemp cords, threaded along the channels after they were stitched. Toiling with a toile. May 3rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM.

May 9th, 2010. May 9th, 2010 at 1:17 PM. With so few examples of this style of wrap around corset available to study, I had to assume that this pattern was generic and that any other examples followed the same fundamental design and base my pattern construction on these images accordingly. Wrap around corset - Kyoto Museum collection. Although the ties on the left hand image look very like thin strings, the ones on the right appear far more substantial and sturdy. Fitting the fabric toile. How lucky to b...

A Hidden Journey

To all the parents out there that have suffered for days, months, even years as our daughter has, with the debilitating affects of PANDAS/PITANDS/PANS, you're not alone. My wife and I decided it was time to tell our story of where our journey started with the unknown, the frightening, and terrifying feeling of hopelessness in a sea of medical apathy towards her plight. Saturday, October 22, 2011. We marveled at our weakness as much as we marveled at Julie's strength as we played tug-o-war with her arms w...

Iraq: a hidden legacy

Iraq: a hidden legacy. In 2009 the United Nations estimated that Iraq was home to as many as 20 million landmines, and up to 50 million cluster munitions. Although in 2012 the UN announced a goal to have all mines and unexploded ordnance cleared from Iraq by 2018, the deadline was scrapped a few months later when it became clear this was not achievable. Despite the scale of the problem, de-mining and rehabilitation work by organisations including KORD, Handicap International and Emergency UK is having an...
