The Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Like others, we believe that there are ways of building a more balanced relationship between the interests of conservation, tourism and those of the pastoral communities in the NCA – ways in which the indigenous people have a key role in the decision making and management of the natural resources. The first preschool classroom was built in Irkeep...

The streams, upon which the Maasai depend, dry up in the dry seasons and the women and children have to walk long distances and dig down to find water. In 2009 the NCAA imposed a ban on the small scale agriculture practiced by the Maasai and a 50% reduction in the number of their cattle. Fourteen out of every hundred children die before they reach the age of 5, mostly from easily preventable and treatable water-borne diseases. Naseku 9th June 2016 - 3:30 pm.
