A blog in the life of Jessica: April 2011

A blog in the life of Jessica. Sunday, April 24, 2011. Another Year, Another Garden. Two kinds of Lettuce: Purple and Green. Don't Be fooled into thinking the mint in the middle is due our gardening efforts. It's invasive, annoying, impossible to get rid of and not part of our garden. Kirsten: fellow gardener, coworker, office mate and friend. Your's truly tenderly tilling God's green, umm. brown earth. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs of those I like. 3 kids 2 lawyers and a dog. A blog in the life of Jessica: National Parks: Part I
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2011/11/national-parks-part-i.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Saturday, December 31, 2011. National Parks: Part I. This last month I watched Ken Burn's The National Parks: America's Best Idea. And loved it. I'd seen some of it a few years ago but this was the first time I've watched it beginning to end. It is a hearty 12 hour endeavor and I did over a few weeks, but it was worth it. Everglades: If you look real close you can see an alligator. Glacier: Brother Mike and I on a sibling bonding hike. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A blog in the life of Jessica: January 2012
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Sunday, January 8, 2012. National Parks: Part II. I am not much of historian and think sometimes that I should write a letter to Richard Lyman Bushman for his advice to the novice historian. Much of the history I learn feels distant and disconnected from my personal life. Recently, I made an interesting personal connection while watching to the history of Grand Teton National Park on the Ken Burn's National Park Series. According to the NPS:. On September 14, 1950, the orig...

A blog in the life of Jessica: A week without a car...day two.
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2011/12/week-without-carday-two.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Tuesday, December 6, 2011. A week without a car.day two. If you ever need a ride just ask me. It's only day two and feel like I owe the whole world a ride to somewhere. My perception of time has changed over the past 2 days. Having a car means I decide when I come and go. Even to the extent that I can get very stressed if I am not out the door or at the office at certain, almost arbitrary deadlines I set for myself. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A blog in the life of Jessica: June 2011
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Sunday, June 26, 2011. I've had numerous people ask me about the trip and while it was a little too rainy, windy and cool for my taste; any trip where no one shouts an expletive at someone during the trip is deemed a success in my mind. Here we all are in the car ready to go:). Mike and me on our brother-sister bonding hike. James is taking the picture. Me and a bear. This (me getting out of the car) made Chenoa very angry. On the Trail of the Cedars. Avalanche Lake I think?

A blog in the life of Jessica: LOVE of Music
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2012/02/love-of-music.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Thursday, February 23, 2012. I know this phenomenon is not unique to me. I also have had similar experiences reading, but I love that a 3-4 minute song can conjure up a perfectly melded experience of time, place and situation that I will never be able to visit in person. I don't mind that the memories aren't always happy. So I leave you with a cover song that I LOVE. MWard’s cover of David Bowie's Let’s Dance. Lately, Ive been using The Shins as music therapy.

A blog in the life of Jessica: Estate Sale
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2012/02/estate-sale.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Saturday, February 25, 2012. On my Saturday morning constitutional I walked past a house having an estate sale and my voyeurism tendency kicked in. How often do I have the chance to look through someone's house and stuff without them inviting me over or me just letting myself in? Much of the stuff was still in closets or seemed barely taken off the wall and put on a table. These people's lives had been so exposed. A Cole Porter LP. A MoTab Sings Christmas Carols LP. Blogs o...

A blog in the life of Jessica: May 2011
http://jessicaannallen.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
A blog in the life of Jessica. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Remember when I said I as going to be a better blogger.neither do I. I flew into Seattle and met up with my friend Amy, who you might recognize from some of my other travels. We tried to see Mt St. Helens on the way down but cloud cover and closed roads foiled our attempt so it was on to Portland. Near Mt. St. Helens, you can see where the lava flowed through the valley. The night we arrived we went golfing at a temporary miniature golf fixture. I ...

A blog in the life of Jessica. Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Snowed In: Day 2. Snow days can be fun for a day but I am ready for my routine to start again. I can only watch so many episodes of Psych and answer work emails before I start to feel really lazy and a little guilty. Sadly I just heard school is closed again tomorrow and perhaps the rest of the week. Help! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs of those I like. 3 kids 2 lawyers and a dog. Good Reads Currently Read.
