The power of “community” | not all who Rwanda are lost

https://aileenpalmer.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/the-power-of-community

Not all who Rwanda are lost. Musings on my time in East Africa. The power of “community”. This entry was posted on November 15, 2012. Bookmark the permalink. Before moving to East Africa, “community”, to me, was just a noun, an ever-changing. How sad that it took me so long to realize that friends and family are all you really need to be happy, no? When did that happen? | not all who Rwanda are lost

https://aileenpalmer.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/when-did-that-happen

Not all who Rwanda are lost. Musings on my time in East Africa. When did that happen? This entry was posted on January 22, 2013. Bookmark the permalink. How did that happen? For the first few months I was here, I found myself thinking those people were crazy. What did they mean, “how did that happen”? How could anyone not notice that they’d been living in Africa for eight years? How strangely sad that must be. So, to all the people I judged for forgetting what it was like to live in the States, I apologi...

July | 2012 | not all who Rwanda are lost

https://aileenpalmer.wordpress.com/2012/07

Not all who Rwanda are lost. Musings on my time in East Africa. Posted in July 2012. The rumors are true… I FOUND YOGA IN AFRICA! I was absolutely thrilled last week when a few interns mentioned that they’d found a coop that lead weekly yoga classes, so I rolled up my travel mat and accompanied Kate on Wednesday afternoon. The organization is a sewing coop in Musanze, where women come together … Continue reading →. A Rwandan birthday celebration. To Akagara we go! A few pictures…. We’re back in Kig...

Not all who Rwanda are lost. Musings on my time in East Africa. How a community visit is like a yoga class. I have this strangely complicated relationship with my yoga practice. i know, in my heart of hearts, that i love yoga– it’s one of very few things in this world that makes my mind stop moving at 100 miles a minute, and i feel a million times better in both body and mind at the … Continue reading →. September | 2012 | not all who Rwanda are lost

https://aileenpalmer.wordpress.com/2012/09

Not all who Rwanda are lost. Musings on my time in East Africa. Posted in September 2012. Another thing to be grateful for. I’d like to think that I’m not totally ignorant to the privileges that have been afforded to me in my life. I know and acknowledge that I have wonderful parents who have loved and supported me through even the strangest decisions (like hopping on a one way flight to East Africa…) and a brother who, while he … Continue reading →. Introduction | Charming Neurosis

https://charmingneurosis.wordpress.com/2012/08/20/introduction

I have the latter. I aspire to be the former. I took the plunge. I hear the groans everywhere. In fact, I’m expecting the World Wide Web to say, I’m done, I quit, I actually give up as a result. Not that it’s just me jumping on the blogging bandwagon:. Have [at least semi-decent] fashion sense? Blog about it now. Do anything with food? Why haven’t you started a blog with pictures yet? Do you have a life? Better document it online so others can live vicariously through you. Regardless of the entire debacl...

Growing Pains | Charming Neurosis

https://charmingneurosis.wordpress.com/2012/08/21/growing-pains

I have the latter. I aspire to be the former. Because of my phobia of anything produced prior to the 1990s, I never watched this show. In fact, I feel vaguely dirty even using it as the title of a blog post. However, the phrase perfectly captures the nausea I feel as a result of the anxiousness, excitement, and terror swirling inside me. For all that it hasn’t even begun, senior year of college is simultaneously exhilarating and horrifying. Where did college go? What do you mean I have to get a job?

Laundry Lists | Charming Neurosis

https://charmingneurosis.wordpress.com/2012/08/22/laundry-lists

I have the latter. I aspire to be the former. I love lists. There is something incredibly soothing in taking a quiet moment, sitting down, and iterating. Forget the world, forget the business around you just sit, focus, and list. My [hopefully charming but really embarrassing] quirks aside, the more and more I think on it, the more and more I am convinced that lists are completely underrated. Lists are also immensely useful tools to generate ideas. Our imaginations propelled our innovation. As adults...
