Writing about books. Writing about writing. Friday, 29 August 2014. Friday Book Bargains #17. Yes, about those The Book People voucher codes. Lovely, lovely site and I normally start scouring it at about this time every year because it’s a great place to start stocking up on Christmas presents. So what YA have they got in at the moment? Even before using any The Book People voucher codes I found the much-talked about Solitaire. By Alice Oseman for £3.99, the Chaos Walking. The Works voucher codes are alw...

Anna Scott Jots: Judy Blume Readalong - 'Forever'
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2015/06/judy-blume-readalong-forever.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Wednesday, 17 June 2015. Judy Blume Readalong - 'Forever'. I see the words 'Judy Blume readalong' crop up on my Twitter feed and my first thought is I'M THERE. Wouldn't that be everyone's first thought, surely? I had planned on my own read through of the Blume's back catalogue last summer after going to her talk at Waterstones in Piccadilly. But I only got as far as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Swiftly followed by Superfudge. My own memories of Forever.

Anna Scott Jots: December 2013
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Friday, 13 December 2013. Past on Paper - 1940s Review - 'That Burning Summer', Lydia Syson (Hot Key Books, 2013). Quick warning: the odd spoiler on the horizon folks. With that amazing title and a synopsis that strongly hints of a secret wartime love affair, you'd be. Forgiven for thinking that this book is an out-and-out romance. Ok, it. As with her previous book. Welcome addition to the growing number of YA books set during this period that I've had the plea...

Anna Scott Jots: MG REVIEW: 'Murder Most Unladylike' - Robin Stevens (Corgi, 2014)
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2014/07/review-murder-most-unladylike-robin.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Friday, 25 July 2014. MG REVIEW: 'Murder Most Unladylike' - Robin Stevens (Corgi, 2014). Deepdean School for Girls, 1934. When Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong set up their very own deadly secret detective agency, they struggle to find any truly exciting mysteries to investigate. (Unless you count the case of Lavinia's missing tie. Which they don't, really.). A murder must have taken place . . . and there's more than one person at Deepdean with a motive. First admiss...

Anna Scott Jots: June 2014
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Wednesday, 18 June 2014. It's been a while. I've been wanting to get back to blogging again for ages, but there's always been a combination of things stopping me, the main one being my own ability to procrastinate at all costs. And then you start to miss it, writing and discussing books, writing for the love of it, writing because you can and not because you have to. Things I found whilst packing, some more respectable than others. I recently attended the Judy ...

Anna Scott Jots: Past on Paper: 1950s YA REVIEW - 'Out of the Easy', Ruta Sepetys (Speak, 2013)
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2015/06/past-on-paper-1950s-ya-review-out-of.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Saturday, 6 June 2015. Past on Paper: 1950s YA REVIEW - 'Out of the Easy', Ruta Sepetys (Speak, 2013). It’s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer. I'm resurrecting my Past on Paper. However the very best thing about Out of the Easy. I'd just ...

Anna Scott Jots: REVIEW - 'Speak', Laurie Halse Anderson (2001, Hodder, UK)
http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/2011/08/review-speak-laurie-halse-anderson-2001.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Saturday, 6 August 2011. REVIEW - 'Speak', Laurie Halse Anderson (2001, Hodder, UK). Melinda starts high school as an outcast and must survive the year, abandoned by her friends, struggling to communicate with her distracted and warring parents and being eaten from the inside by a horrific secret that has taken her over. My one gripe, and it is a tiny one; why does Melinda have to excel at something to be accepted, or accepted to a certain degree? I read this b...

http://annascottjots.blogspot.com/p/my-ya-confessions.html
Writing about books. Writing about writing. Where I post infrequently depending on how often I feel the urge to confess a YA-related problem that makes me want to hang my head in shame. Or when I need advice from all you YA experts out there. Or when I just want to give you an insight into how my brain works. I've Never Read 'The Hunger Games'. I'm a YA Blogging Dabbler. I really should be reading more UKYA. A Little Something for National Short Story Week. May Malone' by David Almond. YA Review Round Up.
