Als 1915 die türkische Regierung zum Jahr des Schwertes "Jahr des Fermans" ausgerufen hat, wird dieses Dorf zum Symbol des Aramäischen Widerstands. 60 Tage lang wurde das Dorf von türkischem Militär und Kurden umzingelt. Die Männer aus Ainwardo waren bekannt für ihre Tapferkeit und ihr Eifer. Kein Dorf der Länder Mesopotamiens konnte sich den Türken und Kurden widersetzten und gegen sie kämpfen wie dieses.
