Sunday, 6 July 2014. For a change I decided to do some work on the bikes today. I have an early 1950s Ariel VH 500 which I bought a fair few years ago in a proper state. It was cheap tho. Since then its had various parts loosely attached to it, mainly to try to get a V5C for the bike with the original registration, which was successful. I was thinking about part ex-ing it with a mate who is building another Ariel, but common sense went out of the window and I've decided to get busy and do it myself.

Friday, 20 March 2015. Had a couple of days off so Ive been working on the van and the bikes. Done an oil change and a bit more welding. Underseal going on (me and the VW.). While I was waiting for oil to drain I cracked on with my 50's Ariel frame. Welded a bead around the head races to get them out. And fixed the broken seat bracket. Slowly getting the hang of this welding lark. Next was the Fantic rear brake. How it was:-. Then weld it back together:-. Felt like a summers day:-. Magnetos - Part 2.

Tuesday, 1 April 2014. A box full of steering. Sadly its not full of oil although there is some in there cos its leaking out. There doesn't appear to be any slop in it either, which is good. Need to get the drop arm off so I can change the oil seal, clean it up and put it back on the van, but its resisting. Even a hydraulic puller hasn't moved it. Sunday, 19 October 2014. As expected, the metal moths have been feasting on the chassis of my VW. This is one of several holes in the rear chassis rails. They always get bigger as you clean them back:-. This is after cleaning back with a flap wheel in a grinder, then spraying with weldable primer. I couldn't figure out how to make a suitable template so decided to repair the damage in two goes (bearing in mind I have never welded a vehicle before). This is the first plate:-. Thursday, 14 March 2013. What's Got 32 Wheels? A session at XC today that's what! Decided to try and stick to the 8 all day, started off on the new Veteran Typhoon (left). Wheelbase is shorter as is the tail, the combination of these counteract each other and it actually skates better than I expected for a short deck with a short wheelbase.
