If you ask the same question to a midwife, you may get a variety of answers. In the birth room, everyone has a job. The midwife is the care provider. It is one of those cliches that we all know, yet some of us do not take to heart. I hear on an almost daily basis, "I would love a doula, but I can't afford one." or "How can I get a free doula, I don't have money to pay for one.". How can we fix this? I would say if you honestly cannot afford the service of someone else, discuss it with them....
