Category Archives: House Building. January 21, 2016. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. A Walk Through the House. Next to Zane’s bedroom is Zoey’s bedroom, also with a sliding glass door. Past the bathroom is the kitchen. It opens up to the living room. Across from the kitchen next to the stairs is our dining area. There will be a sliding glass door where the plastic tarp is currently. It was nice having that wing of the roof cut out because it brought in so much light to the house. And that’s our house so...

Category Archives: Personal Musings. July 27, 2016. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. Memories to Sustain You. We took a mini-vacation over the weekend to go camping on the coast. We escaped the 100 degree weather to experience the coastal mid-50 degree weather that chilled us. I love the beauty that surrounds us here on our land, but I am drawn again and again to the coast. 8220;What if the word work was changed to dance with life? What if work was no longer a burden but a gift waiting to be unwrapped? The gra...

August 9, 2015. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. Rest is allowing the present to be imperfect. I heard that quotation today as I was listening to a Hope*ologie podcast. The last two days have taught me much about imperfection. Some days it rears its head more than other days–to remind me of my smallness I guess. I made this zucchini pizza. The crust before toppings were added. In case you want to make it. Let me know if it turns out nice and crusty for you and you can share your secret tip with me. Some things...

A Prayer To The Earth. June 15, 2015. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. Another full weekend at my herbal class. I returned home last night to an empty house. Stephen and the kids slipped away to Sea Ranch. Today Zoey starts her swim lessons. I have a quiet moment here at home before they return. Earth teach me stillness. As the grasses are stilled with light. Earth teach me suffering. As old stones suffer with memory. Earth teach me humility. As blossoms are humble with beginning. Earth teach me caring. Notify...

The grass is growing so tall, we are eager for the sheep to come and graze, but we’ve been waiting since April for their arrival and so far no sheep. Thankfully we had no surprise rattle snakes waiting for us in the tall grass. She has beautiful photographs and some recipes I’d like to try that look yummy. Check it out. And I’ve been listening to Brandi Carlile. January 29, 2016. By Wende...

Category Archives: Ranch life. January 14, 2016. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. A Quiet Thursday Afternoon. It’s raining and foggy here today. Zane is napping and Zoey and Stephen are down the dirt road (or I should say muddy road) watching the guys put gravel down until we can get the road regraded. Yesterday we had a nice sun break, so Zane and I took an afternoon walk. Or more accurately, I walked and Zane rode in the stroller. The culverts are flowing with rain water and the lake has spilled over. Back w...

April 30, 2016. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. My Favorite Things in April. Friday nights at home. Wind chimes serenading us through the day. Soft small arms wrapped around my neck. Saturday afternoon naps on the bed with Zoey and Zane. Walks through the garden to check on new sprouts. Lester jumping on my lap to be rubbed. Sweet kisses from my beloved. Gentle yoga in the evening. Sleeping by the light of the full moon. Hiking through tall grass. Greeting the day with a light heart. April 25, 2016. In which ...

A Campout By Our Lake. July 6, 2015. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. Do you ever have those times in your life when someone sends you something or you read something that is so fitting to the moment you are living? Slow me down Mother. Let my spirit be reserved again,. Rooted and still as the ancient trees. Help me to stop chasing my life. And instead pour into my life like a waterfall. Collecting here like a fresh pond of water. In the center of this moment. Let me observe, be calm. Let me know peacefulness.

May 12, 2015. By Jessica Adriance Cowan. Welcome To Our Garden. Our garden beds are mostly planted. I have a few beds I am leaving empty to plant the herbs I bring home from my herbal class. My herbal collection now includes lemon balm, day lily, feverfew, monarda, greek mullein, boneset, calendula, and yerba mansa. I’m cold stratifying some more herbal seeds to plant in the garden in a few weeks. So far this gardening experiment seems to be on track–our seeds have sprouted and are growing! April 14, 2015.
