A Joyful Mess: Obedience
http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com/2012/10/obedience.html
Monday, October 15, 2012. Poo, I thought my kids' disobedience was something that I could conquer. No, I'm finally seeing it for what it is. Sin. Sure, they're great kids, but they're KIDS. As in people. Human beings, creatures with selfish desires, and wants, and they'd rather have fun doing whatever their little hearts desire in the moment, rather than be obedient to their parents. Or "Why do you think its okay to react that way? And my personal favorite, "Do you hear me? That sounds great right? Delay...
A Joyful Mess: Workboxes, updated.
http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com/2012/10/workboxes-updated.html
Sunday, October 14, 2012. I recently posted about how we use Sue Patrick's Workbox System, but I've since received many questions. You can read the original post here. Which is mostly a "how to" in setting them up. I'm going to attempt to fill in the gaps that I may have left out. So, this is how we work through our boxes. And work cards start out like this. Empty blocks, also numbered 1 through 9. Note the Velcro here too. Now, he'll move on to box #2, and do the same. Questions that have come up:.
A Joyful Mess: On this struggling day....
http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com/2012/10/on-this-struggling-day.html
Thursday, October 11, 2012. On this struggling day. Now, I know that you've never had a tough day schooling right? I plan my heart out, carefully coordinating which reader goes nicely with our history. Then my sweet, literature-hating Thoughtful decides that this book is just too hard! Forgetting the fact that his last three readers were leveled higher, he gave up. Tears included, free of charge. I didn't want to. Let's go for a walk. We have beautiful weather this week, so we might as well soak it up.
A Joyful Mess: A week off
http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-week-off.html
Thursday, October 4, 2012. We are loosley following the "Sabbath Schooling" this year, and I think that if I followed it more closely, I'd love it. Basically, its school 6 weeks, rest a week, as modeled by God's Creation of work 6, rest 1. Taking the time to chill out and not think for a while, resetting our brains, feels good. However, we've been schooling for 10 weeks, and yep, we could've used this break a month ago! I will change this when I'm planning next year! And I planned some school! Ten weeks ...
A Joyful Mess: When nobody to wants school
http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com/2012/11/when-nobody-to-wants-school.html
Thursday, November 8, 2012. When nobody to wants school. We have awakened to a very cold morning for our neck of the woods. Low 40's for NE FL, plus windows left open over night, and the heater left off leaves us.well.brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Nobody wants to get out of bed. Nobody wants to head to the school room. What to do? Hot oatmeal, with a promise of hot chocolate after school time, was a great starting place for us this morning. Here's what we actually did today, and yep, it all counts! November 8, 201...

The Mess Exposed: School Room- The Ugly Truth!
http://themessexposed.blogspot.com/2012/08/school-room.html
Monday, August 13, 2012. School Room- The Ugly Truth! It has so much potential, but it seems to look like this more often than not! My daughter's gymnastic mat somehow gets stored in here, the desk has become the "catch all," the kids apparently don't know how to put books away, or won't. Even though there are 2 garbage cans in here, there is garbage all over the floor! If I'm able to get it back in shape, I'll post pictures of how it is supposed. August 13, 2012 at 1:19 PM. Friday, May 31, 2013. Weekly Wrap-Up: Like the Old Days. Well, I'm finally around to do a weekly wrap-up! Despite my house being torn apart (literally- and I'll get to that soon) and being canceled from work, and being extremely low on funds, this week has been a sweet reminder of what I love. my family! This week felt like "the old days" before I worked a bazillion stinking hours a week. I started reading a book to the girls last week, The Cabin Faced West, and Little Bit just loved it! Oh- I forgot to ...
The Mess Exposed: Feeling Inadequate
http://themessexposed.blogspot.com/2012/07/feeling-inadequate.html
Monday, July 23, 2012. This weekend proved to be a doozy! I ended up calling in sick for the first time in over a year! It started out as one of those bugs you think you can push through and work through it. but ended up being a, "honey come rescue me off the bathroom floor," nightmare! Thankfully, it seems like it was just a 24 hour bug! I'm getting back to normal. He worked in me through those struggles, and well, now to encourage. You, I am going to talk about… being inadequate! Inadequate. Well m...

Friday, August 31, 2012. Weekly Wrap-Up: Breaks Fly By! How is it that when you are on a break from school, the week flies right past you? It's just not fair! Although, I have to say this has been an ahhhmaaazing week! Boy was he surprised when he walked in and found me all dressed up and no kids! While the date was great, the entire next day, home alone, was ahhh! I got a lot of school planning done, a nap, and some piddly stuff.I really need more days like this! Even the short times are rare! AND, I mo...

The Mess Exposed: January 2013
http://themessexposed.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 19, 2013. Weekly Wrap-Up: Coming out of the Funk. Well, we started back to school again, which should mean you'll be seeing more regular posts from me. . . at least in the weekly wrap-up department! As for school, this has been a fabulous week! As much as I stomped my feet and pitched a fit about going back, (my bad attitude has pervaded every part of life! Lol) I'm glad we're back at it. It has been quite the adjustment though. Baby T has cried every day this week! I made several apron...
The Mess Exposed: June 2012
http://themessexposed.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. What a week I've had. The kids had VBS this week, so I thought I'd relish the time alone starting with cleaning the house! This would take 2 days to do a really good job. Then, I planned to plan for school, and get things set up for a unit study/lap book about the Olympics. Well. it took ALL WEEK. To get the house cleaned how I wanted it! Besides the cleaning, I ran errands daily! Today, as I was mowing the lawn (more work.) and complaining to myself about who should really b...

Skip to primary sidebar. Living Well Spending Less. The adventure of finding the Good Life on a budget. Why I Took My Kids’ Toys Away (& Why They Won’t Get Them Back). Even so, there were warning signs that my kids still had too much stuff. In June, we took a field trip to Reptile World in Orlando. Afterwards we decided it would be fun to take the girls to dinner at a dinosaur-themed restaurant called T-Rex in Downtown Disney. While we were waiting to be seated my oldest daughter Maggie spotted the.
The Mess Exposed: February 2013
http://themessexposed.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 25, 2013. Today, it rained. The roads flooded, and I was worried we would get stuck. Pre-algebra tests make me think more than I want to! Our kitchen has been in shambles since last week. We are repainting the cabinets and now don't like the colors.and can't find a matching color for the walls. My kids are driving me crazy. I got in a fight with someone who means a lot to me. the fight was over when they stormed off, I have no closure and don't expect to ever get it. We need more money.
