Katie Morag - About the Words
http://www.katiemorag.com/about-the-words.asp
There may be some words that are unfamiliar to you. In the Highlands some people speak Scots and some Gaelic, and some have a smattering of the two in their day to day conversations. Here are a few from the series! This is a Scots word for a refuse heap, now mainly used to describe childrens bedrooms. A Scots word for Turnip, and can be used affecionately for cuddly wee babies! A Gaelic word for an old man. A Gaelic word for an old woman. Scots word for New Years Eve. Gaelic for thank you.
