When Gold Coast Met Princeton. April 26, 2015. This photoshoot started out as a marketing reparation to my sister for keeping me blessed with flawless African print outfits. But in between staged candids and playing croquet against the backdrop of quintessential Princeton, I realized that our little afternoon distraction had become something greater than ourselves. Nearing the end of the shoot, an Asian tourist asked if her teenage daughter could have a photo. WHEN BLACK WAS BLACK. February 20, 2015.

WHEN BLACK WAS BLACK. February 20, 2015. First they called us Negroes. Then they called us coloured, when all we were was us. They killed all our heroes. Fought against our freedom;determined to keep us in the past. Or so we have believed. For as we look around, though slaves we may not be. Our past is again relived. Now we’re not content with who we are. With our beautiful coloured skin. We ‘tone’ and ‘clear’ without a care. And our pride-with the skin-wears thin. Such beautiful ebony skin we have!

Because Ghana-must-go and is still going. Dreamer girl who only knows one way: forward. Can I Be Black in Peace? This morning I read a Daily Mail article. 8212; and its ensuing comments–about Lupita starring in Shuga, the MTV Kenyan series on HIV awareness. The title said it all: Before she was famous: Lingerie-clad Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o juggled two men in sexually-charged Kenyan soap opera. Do you realize it was a fictional character she was playing? Can I be black in peace? March 13, 2014. Fill i...

Because Ghana-must-go and is still going. Dreamer girl who only knows one way: forward. Why say “Tweeaa”? That is the real question. In the last month, we have all been tweeaaing.
