AKclimbergeek: The UB
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-ub.html
Thursday, May 29, 2014. We marveled at the number of cranes dotting the growing skyline. This city and country are booming with mineral development. Tall glass towers stand next to old monasteries in stark contrast. . We ascended the stairs and toured a private collection in the museum beneath the monument. We learned how vast was the empire and were impressed by the taxation and rule. Artifacts from the Silk Road influence and armor and bullets and ornamentation and snuff boxes. On our way home.

AKclimbergeek: Victory Day
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/victory-day.html
Thursday, May 15, 2014. Early in the morning we took a fast train from St. Petersburg to Moscow. A luxurious train similar to the Allegro we took from Finland we settled in for a 3 hour nap in the quiet car. . We woke as train slowed and suburban Moscow came into view, complete with enormous apartment complexes in the picture below. Outside in the warm air we stopped to see the flyover on their way to the grand stand at the Kremlin. Josh became quite animated and pointed out the new stealth fighters...

AKclimbergeek: A Chilean, a Nepalese, and a Finn walk into a bar
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/a-chilean-nepalese-and-finn-walk-into.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2014. A Chilean, a Nepalese, and a Finn walk into a bar. Our first full day in Finland was nearly 20 hours long. After a day of museums and walking around the sights, we headed out to sample some local brews at Villi Waino. Boasting wifi and some good ipas, Josh and I noshed on brats and waffle fries while checking in on social media. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Photographic Evidence of How Cool I am! AKclimbergeek: Now I understand the Revolution
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/now-i-understand-revolution.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Now I understand the Revolution. A day at Pushkin and you begin to fully comprehend what sparked the Revolution. Alicia is our new Polish friend. For our second day in Russia we navigated the subway and bus system to arrive in the town of Pushkin and see Catherine's Palace. And then the lines began. 1 Line to purchase ticket to get into the gardens. 150 roubles each. 2 Line to get into the Palace. 3 Line in the Palace to purchase an entry ticket. 400 roubles each. On our way home.

AKclimbergeek: Qingdao
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/qingdao.html
Thursday, May 29, 2014. We spent the weekend with my childhood friend, Alex, and his wife Bethany. Alex teaches English at a local community college/school/university, and they have lived there a few years. China continues to impress me with its booming construction, sheer number of buildings, plentiful parks and green spaces, and tidiness (read: not cleanliness). . Most buildings have security guards and systems and courtyards share both exercise and playground equipment. Our time with Alex and Bethany ...

AKclimbergeek: Climbing wall in Siberia
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/climbing-wall-in-siberia.html
Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Climbing wall in Siberia. After coming short on the excursions on Olkhon, I was eager to trek along the Great Baikal Trail near Listavankya. There was no ferry service yet, which would have taken us directly there; alas, we spent another six hours (plus) to Irkutsk with a transfer to the little port town of Listavankya on the southern shores of the Lake. AKclimbergeek: Minutes Count
http://akclimbergeek.blogspot.com/2014/05/minutes-count.html
Friday, May 2, 2014. Fly the friendly skies" is United Airlines slogan. It took me three different calls to customer service but I found a friendly agent.finally. And she was on the phone with us for 20 minutes or more. Little tiny connector next to 747, at O'Hare? We never made stand by and flew on our original leg. And as we turned the corner on the tarmac at 1558 in ORD, Josh piped up from his window seat, "I see a Lufthansa plane next to our gate.". Where have you been? Where is your husband? After ...
