City of the Living. Your guide to my life in Cairo. June 05, 2006. It's not a dry heat (or is it? Posted by Matt @ 10:12 PM. June 04, 2006. I am back in Cairo after another whirlwind trip away. I first spent four days visiting friends in Oxford and participating in their formal (and "solemn") graduation ceremony; then I returned to the U.S., where I attended my brother's wonderful wedding weekend. What a fun, beautiful, and heady few days that was. Posted by Matt @ 6:27 PM. View my complete profile.

Last Friday at a Fulbright party, I met one of last year's scholars, who is an Egyptologist working on her PhD dissertation. Over drinks and sheesha, she offered to take a bunch of us out to the pyramids for a special personal tour. So we got up really early, loaded up on coffee, and went out. This photo above is our wonderful guide, Jackie. And here is the group:. Posted by Matt @ 7:57 PM. October 25, 2005.

From Beirut to the Beltway: Landis: let them have "50 per cent justice"
http://beirutbeltway.blogspot.com/2006/01/landis-let-them-have-50-per-cent.html
Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. From Beirut to the Beltway. To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact (Charles Darwin). Sunday, January 29, 2006. Landis: let them have "50 per cent justice". Landis argued that this "compromise", supposedly facilitated by the Saudis, is the only realistic option available to Saad, who is being the "odd man out" in a region that is leaning towards saving the Syrian regime from collapse and economic s...

Wednesday, January 25, 2006. May Chidiac to take on Aoun? According to as-Safir today, the March 14 alliance will nominate LBC journalist May Chidiac to fill MP Edmond Naim's seat. If Chidiac agrees, it will deal a blow to Aoun, who, less than a hour after Naim's death, announced. May won't fill the void left by G...

Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. From Beirut to the Beltway. To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact (Charles Darwin). Thursday, February 02, 2006. Aniconism and fundamentalism: the case of the Danish cartoons. The ante against cartoons published in a country, which, had he not espoused an all-out Jihad, would have topped his immigration list. To Muslims everywhere. A few badly drawn cartoons. If there had been a Muslim to carry o...

http://matt-in-cairo.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
City of the Living. Your guide to my life in Cairo. September 27, 2005. Lars and I have settled on a flat. I think it's a great deal: we live in the center of Doqqi, on the 10th floor of a nice, clean building; we have two sizable bedrooms, a brand new kitchen, an extremely large, open living/dining room (with a few different areas for sitting and shmoozing); a working fireplace (? I have a small screened-in balcony off my bedroom. We have a washer and good a/c and satellite TV. I'm a bit too exhausted t...

Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. From Beirut to the Beltway. To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact (Charles Darwin). Tuesday, November 22, 2005. It’s Hizbullah's way or the Beirut-Damascus highway. On Monday. True to their party-pooper nature, they ruined the celebration before it happened, creating an uproar. Among the Lebanese who rightfully resent. Hizbullah tacitly went along with the Taef agreement because it knew it had no...

Sunday, February 05, 2006. The rule of ignorance. And his disciples invade. With lawless breeding grounds like this. How can ignorance not spread? These images speak for themselves. What a shame. The entire Lebanese cabinet, especially the ministers whose party sanctioned. This, should resign. Condemnations. Nobod...
