Olympic Mountains Backpacker: March 2010

I have backpacked the Olympics since 1975. Monday, March 22, 2010. Harrison Lake via Tunnel Creek. The temperature at the pass was 65 degrees with a slight breeze. It was warm, but would have been warmer without the breeze. Matt practiced self-arresting with the new ice axe he just purchased. He must have been successful for he lived. As can be seen in the photos, winter snow was still everywhere, and quite deep. But our snowshoes made the trekking through the snow quite easy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

I have backpacked the Olympics since 1975. Tuesday, April 26, 2011. After 30 years since my last visit to Goat Lake I decided it was time to return. We headed up last weekend, April 22-24th. We made camp in the adjacent field to Camp Handy. Saturday morning at 7:30 we headed up to Goat Lake for a day hike. Years ago I lugged a 45lb pack up there, several times. No more of that nonsense.
