Abenaki Ski Area will be entering its 79th season in December of 2014 and is currently the oldest small ski area in the United States. After 79 seasons, the last 10 of which have seen significant and sustained growth and renewal, Abenaki has outgrown its aging and decaying lodge. This proposal seeks to provide a solution. Fall 2006 Purchased Novice Rope Tow for Kiddie Slope $ 3,000. Winter 2006-’07 Purchasing 2 portable HKD Snow Blizzard Snowmakers, $ 80,000. Winter 2007-’08 enabling area to operate. History of Abenaki Ski Area. The first trails on Poor Farm Hill were cut and used during the winter of 1936 by the newly-formed Abenaki Outing Club. The members, Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro residents, were interested in promoting winter sports in the area and were convinced alpine skiing would draw winter tourists.
