It Just Comes Naturally: February 2015
http://itonlycomesnaturally.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 26, 2015. Winter Weeds in Snow. On Sunday morning, February 22, 2015, the northern Piedmont received two inches of snow followed by a bit of freezing rain that left a glaze over everything outdoors. As I walked to open the driveway gate to my preserve, some of the winter weeds slightly encased in ice struck me as having a particularly "Japanese" gestalt. I hope you agree (and enjoy)! The images are better enlarged. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Monday, February 16, 2015. A Ray of Hope.

It Just Comes Naturally: August 2014
http://itonlycomesnaturally.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. On Saturday morning, I went outside my back door and nearly walked face-first into a caterpillar that had spun a silken thread to descend from the canopy of the huge sycamore tree that grows behind the house. I was in and our of the house several times over the course of a half hour, and the caterpillar was there each time I went in and out. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Rail to Trail Reconnoiter. Traversing a trestle spanning my creek at the southern end of my preserve. The line wa...

It Just Comes Naturally: Standard Issue Male
http://itonlycomesnaturally.blogspot.com/2015/07/standard-issue-male.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. A fire ant simultaneously biting and stinging (Internet image). In a comment to my blogging colleague Packrat on his blog Desert Packrat. Desertpackrat.blogspot.com), I mentioned that I had once had a horrific encounter with fire ants ( Solenopsis invicta. That could have threatened my life and about which I never (at the time) told my wife Kali. I figured that I had related this story in a previous blog post, but Packrat told me he didn't recall the story. So, here goes. Robin ...

On Wednesday, July 8, I had the good fortune to escort two horticultural professionals to an amazing wetland located 0.3-mile from my office- a forested swamp known as Frazier's Bog. Fortunately, the country club recognizes the wetland's value. Frazier's Bog (and and only two other sites in Pennsylvania) support sweetbay magnolia trees ( Magnolia virginiana. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. National Audubon Society Scientists at My Preserve. Yours truly, second from right. It must have been nice to have such distinguished visitors birding in your preserve, Scott. Pretty gratifying, Id say. I wasnt sure how you meant the caption in the second photo to be taken, but I have to confess it gave me a laugh. May 19, 2015 at 4:03 PM. May 20, 2015 at 10:46 AM. It Just Comes Naturally: Dog Vomit Slime
http://itonlycomesnaturally.blogspot.com/2015/07/dog-vomit-slime.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. Now that I've got your attention. On the wood-chipped path outside my office. Of late, I'm obsessed with slime mold, and one species in particular:. Last year, a neighbor cut down several large tuliptrees that had grown too near his house. His arborist chipped the wood, and our organization took the wood chips for our trails. This spring, the wood chipped trail has come alive repeatedly with slime mold aggregations. At first, this slime mold is a strikingly bright, brilliant yellow.
