From Abbotsford to Alaska. June 24-09 Dease Lake. As mentioned in the last post. Clarence and Ted went fishing at Allen Lake this morning. They really enjoyed it, very peaceful and quiet. First Gerrit came for coffee. He had gone looking for Clarence who had said he would be fishing bright and early. When that time came he was still asleep! Allen Lake where the guys went fishing. From Abbotsford to Alaska. Archive for July 2009. June 30,2009-Cache Creek, B.C. Out last day of the trip. We woke up to a nice sunny morning in Quesnel. Our morning ritual, a cup of coffee. The stranger. Is another camper who came to join us. Beautiful scenery along the way between Quesnel and Cache Creek. Lunch together at the Bear’s Claw in Cache Creek and then Ted and Edith left for Abbotsford and we left for Enderby. We spent the night in Chase and got to Enderby the next afternoon.

From Abbotsford to Alaska. June 29-09 Quesnel, B.C. It was cold (5 C) when we got up this morning. Once the sun came out of the clouds it did warm up a bit. We left the campsite at 9 am We headed out for Barkerville. On the way to Barkerville. We stopped for coffee and cinnamon rolls at Historic Cottonwood House. It is a roadhouse complex built in 1864 to accomodate miners and stagecoach passengers. St Saviour’s Church, which still holds regular services. We finished the tour off with an ice cream cone!

From Abbotsford to Alaska. June 25-09 Stewart, B.C. We left Dease Lake at 9:30 this morning. It was cloudy when we left but started raining shortly afterwards. We hit some gravel close to where we crossed the Stikine River and a few km. past the bridge, but after that the highway was in excellent condition. Today we saw 5 bears. Four black and one brown. One of the black bears we saw. We were unable to get a picture of the brown bear as he scooted back into the bush. Posted June 25, 2009 by alaska09.

From Abbotsford to Alaska. June 26-09 Stewart, B.C. An original church from the early 1900’s when Hyder was booming because of the mines. We are on a self-guided auto tour. The stops of interest are all clearly marked. Above picture is taken at Fish Creek. These are viewing platforms where you can watch the bears feed on the chum and pink salmon which spawn in the creek. No bears today, but come the middle of July-September, there will be a lot of grizzlies and black bears. They average about 25 ft. ...
