Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska

Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Photo-A-Day: February 20, 2012. My mom will probably cry over this picture. Eleanor is wearing my first soccer jersey in this picture. I was a member of the "Hot Shots." She looks so much like me as a little girl in this picture. Photo-A-Day: February 18, 2012. In my effort to get one picture in a day, many times I get two pictures. Today was another one of those days. The kids and I went to the zoo today! Fall my favorite season! The kids enjoyed the "corn" sandbox! After riding,...

Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska: August 2011

http://www.alaskawolfs.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 28, 2011. My family walking to the stadium . . . Another bonus last night was seeing the beautiful sunset! Stephen went to an Oakland A's game when he was 4 months old, but neither Stephen or Eleanor has been to a baseball game that they remember. They had a blast! Stephen singing America the Beautiful. He wanted his hat in his hand during the song, not just his hand over his heart. So precious. Final score . . . 8-3. Go Topes! They had a great 7th inning! Saturday, August 20, 2011. This w...

Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska: Pumpkin Patch

http://www.alaskawolfs.blogspot.com/2012/05/pumpkin-patch.html

Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Fall my favorite season! The colors, the cool, crisp evenings, pumpkin treats, and clear skies! I was super excited las fall to live in a place with a true fall. Alaska has a 2 week period of fall in August or September. It was beautiful, but satisfy my need for fall. The kids enjoyed the "corn" sandbox! We found corn kernels for days after the visit to the pumpkin patch. No real animals to ride, but the kids enjoyed riding the "bull! Eleanor roped that bull with some help! Once I...

Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska: New haircut

http://www.alaskawolfs.blogspot.com/2012/05/new-haircut.html

Monday, May 7, 2012. My little girl is growing up! She decided she wanted a haircut. I was very resistant because I love doing her hair. Matt was all for it, easier to take care of. I also thought it was a phase that she would outgrown. She continued to be persistant, so I made us both appointments. A before . . .. Sitting still, "like a statue! Enjoying her first professional shampoo! She sat so still for her haircut! A perfect little statue. Stephen was great all morning! Enough pictures, Mom!

Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska: The Tents

http://www.alaskawolfs.blogspot.com/2012/05/tents.html

Monday, May 7, 2012. April 21, 2012 . . . a beautiful Saturday to go on a hike! We met another family for a hike at a place called "The Tents." The official name is Kasha-Katuwe Rocks National Park. The park was about an hour away. We hiked down a normal trail that led to a slot canyon. I have never hiked a slot canyon before, but it was so cool! In the picture below, the bluff on the left was our destination! I had some doubts initially, but once we were all the way at the top it was so worth the effort.

Adventures of the Wolfs in Alaska: September 2011

http://www.alaskawolfs.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 29, 2011. It is the hard days that make me appreciate life the most. Those days remind me that the easy ones need to be treasured more. The hard days remind me of my responsibility. They affirm my walk with the Lord, otherwise I may not come out of the day intact! Friday, September 23, 2011. There is a beautiful garden at the base of the tram. I enjoy playing with the camera and got some fun pictures of the roses. The kids were also busy taking pictures of the flowers. Can...Fall is a...

Living on Shertzer Time: November 2012

http://shertzertime.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Living on Shertzer Time. Monday, November 26, 2012. Let's just pretend it hasn't been weeks since I blogged, okay. . . Benjamin has really been into music lately, not just listening to it, but making it. I've found him plucking at piano keys on more than one occasion lately and he's so darn cute! He insists on getting out the book of kid songs, despite the fact that he can't read any of the music. He knows you have to see those notes before you can start playing! And it was music to my ears! Amy Shertzer...

Monday, September 10, 2012. Such a precious gift! Love like HE loves: Laughing. I first heard about this video over a month ago and couldn't wait to see our boy in action. Today was the day. As I sat filling out our visa applications, I received the email from sweet Christine that she had posted it. What a blessing! Love him so much already! Sunday, September 2, 2012. She was heartbroken for those children. She spoke of being overwhelmed by the need there. I understood that feeling so very well. She look...

the raymond roost: And we're off!

http://raymondroost.blogspot.com/2012/11/and-were-off.html

Friday, November 2, 2012. Our flight to Chicago was scheduled to leave Dayton at 8:50am on 10/31. The kids wore their new shirts that say, "I can't wait to meet my new little brother! After some concerns with the safety of the plane (oxygen issues.not super comforting) which delayed takeoff, we were finally on our way. We left Chicago at 12:50pm on 10/31 and arrived in Beijing at 3:20pm on 11/1. Wowthat was a long flight.with 5 kids.I. Am really thankful we arrived safely in China. November 2, 2012 at 1:...

the raymond roost: May 2011

http://raymondroost.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 29, 2011. Back into the blogging world I go. I suppose only time will tell if I can stick with it this time. Life has been especially crazy since I started the blog. We moved and shortly thereafter I was very sick for a few months with this pregnancy. Anyway, I will try it again. It seems that the kids asked every single day when the baby would arrive. In that sense, it was a VERY LONG nine months! I decided to lay down to get a little more rest before labor (a mistake? This certainly helped ...

the raymond roost: November 2012

http://raymondroost.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 19, 2012. Gotcha Day - Day 5. We left Beijing on 11/4 and flew to Zhengzhou. Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan province. We woke up on Monday morning and headed to the local registration office along with 10 other families. We were told that we would be there for 2 1/2 hours and that there wasn't a lot of rhyme or reason as to when you would receive your child. Boy, was that the truth! And then there was Elijah; he just slept through it - ha! Of course I cried. Lucy loved him right away.

the raymond roost: Beijing - Day 2

http://raymondroost.blogspot.com/2012/11/beijing-day-2.html

Thursday, November 8, 2012. Beijing - Day 2. Today we woke up and headed out for another day of touring. Our first stop was a jade factory. It was amazing to watch them carve the jade. There were so many beautiful things! Our next stop was the Great Wall of China. Words cannot do justice to explain that structure. Our children have studied about it this year and talked about climbing it for months. It truly was a dream come true and something to cross off the "bucket list.". It seemed so surreal. I picke...

http://raymondroost.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 5, 2011. It's amazing what we will do for free food! Actually, Andrew and Lily had a great time constructing our costumes for Chick-Fil-A's Cow Appreciation Day. If you dress like a cow, they will give you a free meal - brilliant! Our kids thought they were living high on the hog when they each got their own kids meal - ha! Our total came to around $28 and it was all FREE. Have I mentioned that I love a bargain? Blueberry Picking with Caroline. She was very proud of herself! Sven and I ...

Alaska Wolves

Welcome. This site provides first-hand information about wolves and wolf-prey systems, direct from the wilds of Alaska. It would be nice to leave it there, to maintain a Web site purely for posting the results of this behavioral and systems research on an upbeat note, with the hope of instilling or rekindling in others some of the rewarding sense of wonder it stirs in me. Visit regularly. I will be updating and revising at frequent intervals. 2007-09 Gordon Haber and Wildlife Science Inc. Haber’s field n...
