Because we're all still learning… I know I am. Posted by: Alastair Grant. December 15, 2013. School’s out and so are ELT’s grand narratives. Hello again, world. After a somewhat hectic year, I’ve been reflecting (hence blog title, for those of you who’ve just joined us) on what’s happened and what’s evolved in the world (to which, hello again) of ELT. I’ve been observing teachers at my institute. Therefore inform the following, feature-length, post. It seems too close to Dogme to even call another approa...

Mr Carroll demonstrates abundantly throughout “Alice Through the Looking Glass” that, frankly, the idea that there is only one way to speak the English language, is utter drivellishness. Ironically, it was their compatriot Ferdinand de Saussure. There’ll be plenty of stuff for us to fight over here, then. Jamie Olive...

Because we're all still learning… I know I am. Nobody likes a whiner. But frankly… sometimes I just need to get stuff off my chest. I mean, we all do, right? So this page is less a place for me to vent, unload, dump my bad energy etc. and more a place for you to share my venting, unloading, dumping, my bad energy and for you to do the same or at least say, yeah, that really makes me want to smash my [whatever] into [wherever] every [whenever] too. Ever heard the joke. want some cheese with that whine?

Reflections on authenticity in teaching and learning. EAP Dogme-style: A conference in Denmark just before lunch. Following on from my last post regarding my workshops in Brno at Masaryk University, these are the questions I left you dangling on tenterhooks with…. So…What did they write? Did it match what I had imagined? How did the rest of the day go? To become more confident in my speaking skills. To play some games or role-play. To have a nice chat. To meet new people. People, not to. Think on your fe...

Reflections on authenticity in teaching and learning. EAP Dogme style @ Masaryk University: The run up. Just before Christmas I had a wonderful long weekend in Brno in the Czech Republic where I led two days of workshops, for PhD students and teachers at Masaryk Uni. I was invited after my BALEAP workshop on Dogme and EAP back in April last year. The BALEAP workshop was unplugged as much as possible; how else could I demonstrate the approach and get across the value I see in it? Is there such a thing?

Alastair's 3 months in SA
Alastair's 3 months in SA. I am going to be spending January to March 2011 on a parish placement with Rev'd Tom Moffatt and his wife, Emma, in the Anglican Church in De Aar, South Africa. He has an impeccable sense of timing and possesses the kind of theatrical vision that is more gift than technique: the ability not only to remain unflustered by the chaos, intentional or otherwise, surrounding him, but also to draw on it to help fuel his performance." - OCWeekly.

Remake You (Miracle Grows). By Alastair Jamieson and Peter Brown. Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. This track was written by myself and Peter Brown as part of the process that created both this album and his Music For Trains record and is the single that, for me, brings the two records together. We wanted it to have a big 70s feel so everything is recorded live, no plug-ins, no editing, just performances. Remake You (Miracle Grows).

I've recently begun to use an app for my iPad called "Paper" by 53. Here is where I will post my drawings that are only really me messing around with the tools to create hopefully decent pictures. There will also be other trash I imagine, my thoughts and ponderings :). Freshly made sausage sandwich with homemade spicy salsa, topped with onions and fresh cherry tomatoes and sour cream. These are the dreams. Chorizo, Manchego cheddar and fried onion toasted sandwich. Mmmmmmm. The final three days in London.
