Een fietsongeluk, dat op 27 mei jongstleden plaatsvond, is hem uiteindelijk fataal geworden. In december 2012 raakte Albert eenzijdig verlamd door een ruggenmerginfarct. Maar met zijn positieve energie onderdrukte hij zijn fysieke beperkingen en bleef hij knokken voor een come back.
