Through the Studio Door: December 2013
http://gailmakiwilson.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 24, 2013. I don't have a lot of art from when I was a kid. There's no "here is the first book I wrote and illustrated." Not too many drawings or paintings. But I do have a few "project" pieces that I treasure. One of those projects came from when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Christmas ornaments! One of my favorite parts of Christmas is decorating the tree. Each ornament bringing along a memory or story from the past. Friday, December 6, 2013. Friday Studio Links Featuring. Today we get...

WENDY WATSON'S BLOG: February 2014
http://thewendywatsonblog.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 28, 2014. I've been highlighting illustrators for my birthday of the month, but this February I cannot resist turning the spotlight on a writer who was born this month: Laura Ingalls Wilder. I have been a devoted, fanatical fan of her Little House books ever since I first discovered them. As a child, I read the series in their original edition, which was published in the 30's with illustrations by Helen Sewell. And you might consider visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum:. We plant se...

WENDY WATSON'S BLOG: November 2014

Sunday, November 30, 2014. A STONE IN THE BEANS. This morning I was preparing dried beans for baking, and found amongst them a good-sized stone. "Ah," I thought, "there must some connection between a stone in the beans, and art-making." All through breakfast I toyed with this idea. Finding a stone in the beans was like.finding a mistake in my spelling? Finding a clumsy line in my drawing? Sometimes a stone in the beans is . . . just a stone in the beans. Author and Illustrator of Books for Children.

WENDY WATSON'S BLOG: October 2013

Thursday, October 31, 2013. MY PALETTE, CONTINUED. In my previous blog MY PALETTE. I talked about my physical palette, and the choice of pigments that I lay out on that palette. There is one other way we can define this word. Was created from the list of colors I gave in that earlier blog (. Http:/ thewendywatsonblog.blogspot.com/2013/10/my-palette.html. For this image, I used all of the earth colors from my palette, plus a green, and a couple of reds. But I hardly touched my purple, blues, and blacks.

Sunday, January 18, 2015. Disston No. 7 Refurbish. This is number 2 of 2 posts about two saws I just refurbished. The other is a Carcase Saw. The tote after I removed it and cleaned it with denatured alcohol. So I pulled the saw apart and set the plate in vinegar to loosen the surface rust. You can read more about that process on the carcase saw refurbish. The try square held tight to the hand clamp acts as a cutting guide. The rough cut horn patch. The rough cut lambs tongue patch. All in all this was a...

WENDY WATSON'S BLOG: August 2013
http://thewendywatsonblog.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 26, 2013. Holling Clancy Holling, the author and illustrator, was born on August 2, 1900. His work has had a tremendous impact on me. I first discovered him as a child, when I began reading his books: Seabird. Paddle-To-The-Sea. Minn of the Mississippi. I kept reading his books as a teenager. And as an adult. I still pore over them. As an illustrator or author for children, one could do no better than to adopt Holling's philosophy and devotion to his work. Links to this post. Water, or a m...

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. TO CENSOR OR NOT TO CENSOR. From "Grimm's Fairy Tales, Complete Edition, illustrated by Josef Scharl". But I can dabble here in the shallows, and talk about my own experiences with fairy tales. From "Andersen's Fairy Tales", illustrated by Arthur Szyk. As a child, I read voraciously. I took armfuls of the books I had chosen out of the public library; and I read and re-read the volumes that filled the bookshelves and cluttered the rooms in our home. Links to this post. If you d...

A Great Read | A Woodworker's Musings
https://dblaney.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/a-great-read
A Woodworker's Musings. Unplugged Woodworking history, philosophy and technique. Laquo; On Board the Margaret Ann. My friend, Les, asked me if I had a copy of Country Furniture by Aldren Watson. I told him that I did not. Apparently, Les had managed to wind up with two copies. He offered me one, which I gladly accepted (as I live by the rule that no book should go homeless). I’m certainly glad that I did. Explore posts in the same categories:. Feed to this post's comments. You can comment below. Thanks f...
