Life, news and analysis. Signing off, moving on. December 7, 2010. As my more regular readers will have noticed, this blog has, unfortunately, been laying dormant for some months. Due to a mixture of technical issues and general time constraints, I have no long been able to update here. That said, all is not lost; I am currently doing a journalism course in Cardiff, and this involves further blogging. So to find more of my writing, do have a look at Theory of Devolution. Life, news and analysis. March 8, 2010. The workings of a democratic system often ensure that the majority of a country’s citizens are not involved in but instead represented by the activities of government and its officials, with a politician voted into office on election day in order to voice the concerns of his or her constituents. As with any pattern, however, this is prone to loopholes and exceptions. In Switzerland over a relatively specialist animal rights issue, and another. On voting reform, hav...

Life, news and analysis. March 16, 2010. Among the more prominent figures, on the upcoming elections, and public figures are ever wary of the enhanced scrutiny of a constant and ravenous news cycle. More significantly, the internet has become an issue in itself that affects society and fuels political debates. Perhaps unexpectedly, internet access joined suffrage and legal representation in the admittedly unwritten list of things regarded as a a fundamental right, according to a recent poll. Woodman's World: Weekly Round-up - 23.01.11
http://peterwoodman.blogspot.com/2011/01/weekly-round-up-230111.html
Sunday, 23 January 2011. Weekly Round-up - 23.01.11. This week will certainly be remembered for the two dramatic resignations that came on Thursday and Friday. Alan Johnson's decision to resign. We were also treated, early on Friday morning, to the resignation. The rest of the week was dominated by unemployment figures. That made particularly depressing reading for young people, and the official launch of Andrew Lansley's NHS reforms. Posted by Peter Woodman. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Decision ...

Newer posts →. ANCELOTTI NEEDS TO TURN THE TIDE, QUICKLY. March 21, 2010. Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea Football Club were rowing merrily along. Suddenly they found themselves flapping in the water when captain John Terry hit both the front and back headlines. Jose Mourinho in his big, blue and black Barco. After six months of relative peace and quiet, the Blues’ Italian manager had nothing to complain or even be mildly upset about. Although his team had been dumped out of the Carling Cup. On a news item c...

ONE QUARTER FINAL NIGHT, TWO CONTRASTING TEAMS →. FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEKENDER 26/03/10. March 26, 2010. I’m going to keep it short and sweet this week:. Could well be worth taking a look at before this weekend. They are 7/5 to win and they could well give you a good return on your money. Their opponents Fulham. Bet at 1/3, that way they can either win or draw and you’re quids in. (DOUBLE CHANCE HULL AND DRAW). At the Reebok Stadium, my money is going to be on there being under 3.5 goals. V Tranmere (HOME W...
MAGPIES RETURN TO THE TOP-FLIGHT | Football Shorts

WHO IS YOUR SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR? MAGPIES RETURN TO THE TOP-FLIGHT. April 5, 2010. Newcastle United will play Premiership football next season, after a disappointing result for Nottingham Forest, guaranteed the Magpies’ return to the top-flight before a ball had even been kicked at St James’ Park tonight. Congratulates NUFC. They went down and quietly. Went about restoring the faith, pride and loyalty of a quite unique city, a city for which football is everything, pain, agony, joy and wonder. Woodman's World: Iran calls for 'restraint'
http://peterwoodman.blogspot.com/2011/08/iran-calls-for-restraint.html
Thursday, 11 August 2011. Iran calls for 'restraint'. By far the best thing to come from the recent unrest in London has been the following quote from the Iranian Government:. Iran called for London Police to exercise self-restraint in dealing with protesters in Tottenham, north of London. He stressed return of peace and calm to London through talks and examining demands of the demonstrators. Posted by Peter Woodman. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Woodman's World Home Page. Woodman's World: PMQs Review - 19th January 2011
http://peterwoodman.blogspot.com/2011/01/pmqs-review-19th-january-2011_19.html
Wednesday, 19 January 2011. PMQs Review - 19th January 2011. Bit of an odd session today, with a six-question break in the middle of Ed Miliband's questions to the PM. Even odder, however, was the huge cheer that Miliband got when he stood up to speak: for a split-second I think he thought something else was going on in the Chamber. Still, it's definitely good news for the Labour leader that his party is starting to support him. Posted by Peter Woodman. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). YouGov polls do...

Sunday, 30 January 2011. Weekly Round-up - 30.01.11. This week was dominated by figures. As Cameron put in one of his best, and most statesmanlike performances. The other big news this week was the belated publication of the Government's review. Elsewhere, Lord Lawson. Helpfully stuck it to David Cameron by kicking up a fuss about the undesirability of coalition government. We also saw the MoD scrambling. Posted by Peter Woodman. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tuesday, 25 January 2011. PMQs Preview - 26th January 2011. This is not going to be a long post. In fact I wrote that sentence just to beef it up a bit. Because PMQs tomorrow is only going to be about one thing: today's shock 0.5% GDP contraction. Balls has already launched a pretty effective broadside. Posted by Peter Woodman. A Leaf of Grass
A Leaf of Grass. Friday, January 16, 2015. Conversations with the Homeless in San Diego. Day 22 Of My Winter Break…. It took me a while to decide on “people affected by poverty.” I wasn’t going to a homeless shelter, so I couldn’t say “people affected by homelessness” because I simply could not know. I was walking the streets of downtown San Diego looking for people who looked destitute, and judging based on the most superficial criteria imaginable. I approached him, said hi, and was happy to hear him re...

A Leaf of Sara's Life
Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Reflection: weeks 15 and 16. During this week we finished up our Advocacy Project by finding an online learning activity to help others understand the issues we have spent the last few weeks researching. This part of the advocacy project was pretty fun, although for some of the topics it was rather hard to find a related online activity. We also had guest speaker Sue Whitney come in to talk to us about her experiences as a mom, a business owner, and a junker! I LOVE YOU ALL!
