In 1857 Adolphus VI gave a school building, built in the 1850s, to the Vicar of Rushden. It had doors either side of the room for boys and girls. In 1870 it became an Established Day School for a Government grant. In 1875 certificated teachers were hard to find, even for £50 p.a. plus £7 for Sunday School and lodgings. 1920s Mr and Mrs Page Landlord of the Moon and Stars. Formerly two dwellings in the 17th C and rebuilt in the 18th C. There were problems with rats which once ran off with Mrs Page's teeth and customers were so cold that they used to collect wood on the way to the pub to make the fire bigger. Rose and Crown (now number 8). One of the oldest houses in the village used to be a pub which closed in the 1920s. 1990 Mr and Mrs Hornsey, Tony and Mary Glaze with Rachel, Sarah and Oliver, the fourth generation to live at number 8. Mario Lorenzi was a famous jazz harpist in the 1930s. Concerts were organised by Mrs Lorenzi in the Village Hall. Boating on Southern Green Pond 1985 with Guy and Dominic Warren from the farmhouse and Edward and Nick Hill from Bachelors. 1989 Southern Green Farm 17th C. Sold by Julians and the barns converted. Early 1900s Ben Cannon (related to the Dudleys of Cumberlow Green) lived here and because of his passion for shooting is buried with his hat and gun in Rushden churchyard. John and Charlotte Oldham used Old Hammers when on leave from Singapore and finally settled here. John Oldham ran the library during the war and was a Churchwarden and Chairman of the Village Committee. He organised VE Day and in 1953 the Coronation Day celebrations for Rushden. There was a meal in the Village Hall and beer and music on the Green and the coronation oak tree was planted on Church Green. The fourth generation - Amy and Charlotte Crump.
