The Transcontinental: September 2014
http://the-transcontinental.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2014. This blog still exists. It seems odd to think that this blog has been around for 7 years, limping along, a post here and there, lately reflecting not much more than a profound desire to avoid writing. Of course we know why- there's a dissertation to be written! In any event, writing at all has proven difficult. And indeed, when one looks across the infinite horizon of the virtual landscape, there are moribund blogs everywhere. So maybe it isn't just me. I call it the "Under...

stop making sense: The Many Lessons of Janet Jackson
http://streetnameslikevirtue.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-like-janet-jackson.html
Saturday, November 22, 2008. The Many Lessons of Janet Jackson. I like Janet Jackson. Listening to her songs is like being winded with the realization that your parents are cool. It hits you out of nowhere: you grew up with them, couldn't bare publicly being beside them, and then one night you smell pot in the hallway, and hear the Zombie's "Time of the Season" emanating from their bedroom. Under the pretense of a song about the way love 'goes' (works? Consider the lyrical content. Like a moth to a flame.

stop making sense: Fragment from a Work of Fiction #1
http://streetnameslikevirtue.blogspot.com/2008/10/fragment-from-work-of-fiction-1.html
Friday, October 24, 2008. Fragment from a Work of Fiction #1. On the question of sex, he quite freely surrenders. It is not that it baffles him. On the contrary; in good Freudian form, he has always believed in something essentially primitive about sex. The mechanics of desire, he agrees, are inseparable and considerably more complicated. But let sexual relations be sexual relations if motivated by mutual desire. By mystical. Desire. Why go through pains to sublimate or disavow such things? Incessant sol...

stop making sense: On Musical Commodification
http://streetnameslikevirtue.blogspot.com/2008/11/on-musical-commodification.html
Sunday, November 9, 2008. For reasons that don't even make sense, I'm insulted when bands I've had some stake in get 'big' and are suddenly taken up by x, their girlfriend, and everybody else with some alleged interest in pop culture. The latest example of this appears with Kings of Leon. Who, it seems, have become the new 'it' band. And by 'it' I mean 'in' for the mainstreamers, and (by default) 'out' for the hipsters. In fact, The Culture of Me. Conveys the right sentiment when they say:. And so it is ...

stop making sense: Diary of a Good Read
http://streetnameslikevirtue.blogspot.com/2008/10/diary-of-good-read.html
Thursday, October 30, 2008. Diary of a Good Read. Moments ago, I finished my latest Coetzee enterprise, Diary of a Bad Year. How to still remain relevant, and not fade away into forgotten obscurity? How to be preserved, in relic and spirit? How to understand the fundamentals of our existence: love, compassion. Something has been purged in my mood. Note to self: the requirement, the aim or measure, of all great art. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Toronto, On, Canada. View my complete profile.

stop making sense: The Blog About Blogs #1
http://streetnameslikevirtue.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-waver-with-demands-i-place-on-this.html
Friday, November 7, 2008. The Blog About Blogs #1. I waver with the demands I place on this blog. Often I struggle with the specific question of appropriateness. Thoughts go something like: is what I say appropriate for this space? Does it represent me appropriately, to my own self-realized tailoring? Would I have it as I have my coffee, constant and unflinching, or as I have my wine, often based on occasion (.oh, a house party? Probably not red, then, for fear of stained teeth, etc.). I think the same w...

too much on my mind: October 2009
http://artsmonkey.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Too much on my mind. Thursday, October 29, 2009. It always comes back to cute boys. So i have a big sloppy crush on my cute boy who's a friend. And we totally hooked up this past weekend. Now we're friends who make out. And text each other a thousand times a day. It's disgusting, actually. Like princess-alathariel/eg vomit worthy. I feel oddly calm about this. Could this actually be a good thing? I'm waiting for it all to go to shit/me to have a freak out session in 10.9.8.7. Thursday, October 15, 2009.
