Patalier: March 2012
http://patalier.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Never far from a needle and thread. Friday, March 30, 2012. Did I ever tell you about the time. When my youngest daughter decided my pressing ham was a blank canvas for her artistic creations? Maybe she got this notion from her older sister? Here's the story and I am telling this from the perspective of the adult:. How can one not smile at such an infectious grin from this character? Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Turn of the Century Strip Quilt Top. You can get the idea of how a border design was created with...

Never far from a needle and thread. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Assimilation - Lace Seam Tape pre 1940s. Art doesn't happen in a vacuum; therefore art is a reflection of the ideas and culture of the individual creating. One doesn't have to go back thousands of years for another example; in the twentieth century a universal symbol of good luck found new identity with Nazism. A symbol which could be dated back through history. No, it couldn't be? The lace came from a home of a 102 year old woman. She was ...

Patalier: The world is changing...
http://patalier.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-world-is-changing.html
Never far from a needle and thread. Sunday, December 30, 2012. The world is changing. I have a quilt top that reminds me of change, and how it is possible that change doesn't always work out for the best. It was described on the estate sale tag as a "silk coverlet". It is neither silk, nor a coverlet. It is a machine pieced quilt top with nylon fabric. At first glance, this quilt top looks like an Amish framed square pattern, except in a pink and blue colorway popular during the 40's. I never really cons...

Patalier: Saffron reminds me of Chrome Orange - Best Cinnamon Rolls Ever
http://patalier.blogspot.com/2013/01/saffron-reminds-me-of-chrome-orange.html
Never far from a needle and thread. Sunday, January 27, 2013. Saffron reminds me of Chrome Orange - Best Cinnamon Rolls Ever. You're probably wondering how I'm making a connection between saffron, chrome orange and cinnamon rolls. Believe me, in my household it isn't hard. I'm going to give you my cinnamon roll recipe. 4 pkgs. dry yeast (this translates to 9 teaspoons of loose yeast). 3 cups lukewarm water. 4 teaspoons salt (I omit this). Let rise till doubled. Divide dough into thirds and knead (it ...

Patalier: July 2012

Never far from a needle and thread. Thursday, July 5, 2012. Those Nickles and Dimes Add Up. I hate to put it like this, but weddings can be such a blood sucking, budget busting event. And while I can appreciate the time put into some of the accoutrements of a well-put-together affair, my jaw has hit the floor a few times with the cost of some of the smallest items. Item 3 - Ring pillow: another cute item from Etsy $35 (shipping $5). The one on Etsy was only 6" square. This is the prototype for the attend...

Patalier: November 2012
http://patalier.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Never far from a needle and thread. Friday, November 30, 2012. If I said I used over 25 bobbins of thread while machine quilting a quilt, would you be able to picture how heavy the machine quilting was on the quilt surface? This obsession with heavy machine quilting started back in 1989 when I was a member of a local quilting guild. I was a member of a friendship group within the guild. Each member of the friendship group picked a quilt pattern and then everyone would make each other their blocks . A qui...

Never far from a needle and thread. Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Quick Food Processor Pizza Crust. Here it is right out of the oven. It just doesn't get any better than this when your pizza crust never fails. Kick back, relax and enjoy! 1 package active dry yeast (which is 2 1/4 teaspoons if you buy it in bulk). 1 cup warm water. Add: 2 1/2 cups King Arthur flour. 1 1/2 tablespoons oil. 2 tablespoons of King Arthur. Pizza Dough Flavor (item 1043). Mix (your food processor may have a dough blade, but the re...

Patalier: Another Antique Wild Goose Chase
http://patalier.blogspot.com/2012/12/another-antique-wild-goose-chase.html
Never far from a needle and thread. Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Another Antique Wild Goose Chase. I purchased the top at an antique show this past summer. Not only was the size a bit of a mystery to me, but there are two tops of the same wonderful quality and size. It was two tops for the price of one! Were the two tops originally made to be one large quilt and then split down the middle for donation, but then put away and forgotten? I'm not sure except to say this secret has been lost with the maker.
