Thursday, February 26, 2009. Marathon to Big Bend. So … here goes. We stayed at the Marathon Motel and RV Park. Cable TV, HBO. What more could you ask for? Marathon may seem like an ordinary, small, dusty town about an hour north of Big Bend National Park but it has a charm of its very own. The focal point is the Gage Hotel that dates back to 1926. It’s right out of a John Wayne movie. It is furnished in early old west Texas and it is lovely. Where else can you find a wall decorated with steer skulls?
