Crocodile Tears | Escape Plan: A
https://escapeplana.wordpress.com/2014/06/26/crocodile-tears
The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. June 26, 2014. Stay off the Autopista we were told and stay off we did. No bikes allowed and who’d want to ride on a major highway when there were cycle ways and backroads to be had. So meandering our way up to Pamplona we followed riverside hiking trails, canal bike paths, minor roads through desert parks and wind turbines and secondary highways when we had to. Nooooooo. Does the fine make it safer? Amazingly they let us go! It was a public holiday and a...

Fixing a hole where the rain gets in | Escape Plan: A
https://escapeplana.wordpress.com/2014/08/10/fixing-a-hole-where-the-rain-gets-in
The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. Fixing a hole where the rain gets in. August 10, 2014. It took us a couple of years to plan our trip, to save money, gather all the goodies and map out a route. We waited for the end of financial year sales when we could buy the more expensive, lightweight and shiny stuff on the cheap. We were pretty pleased with our hoard and I thought that our gear would last the journey… I was wrong. Broken, damaged or replaced. 15 or so flat tyres. 1 USB charging unit.

Velodyssee | Escape Plan: A
https://escapeplana.wordpress.com/2014/07/28/velodyssee
The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. July 28, 2014. We’d met a lovely French-Canadian guy in Zaragoza. His name was Manu and he had taken a few months off to cycle France and Spain. He had some great advice for crossing the border into France. “Take the Velodyssee through Bayonné up to Leon, it’s beautiful” he said. So we took his advice, crossed the French border and headed up the west coast. Much of the same? We were too tired to think about it. Most days we would search out a village bake...

San Sebastián | Escape Plan: A
https://escapeplana.wordpress.com/2014/07/25/san-sebastian
The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. July 25, 2014. The Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona is not high on my bucket list. I’ve never been a fan of any ‘sport’ where animals are tortured and killed for our entertainment. Luckily we’d arrived at the wrong time of the year to see it. I would, though, have liked to see the ‘running of the nudes’ a PETA demonstration held the day before the running. The vacant basketball court next door started to look like a pretty good alternative. T...

Easter Fever | Escape Plan: A
https://escapeplana.wordpress.com/2014/06/25/easter-fever
The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. June 25, 2014. Bouncing, bounding, echoing, racing. In narrow cobbled streets the thrumming grew. Purple cloaks clustered in groups, families decked in matching rich hues wandered ladened with drums of various sizes towards the ever increasing glut of beat. The deep thump worked its way through the loose fabric of my cycling jersey, tingling the fine hairs on my arms and rattled my lungs till the breath caught in my throat. Crocodile Tears →. French character | Escape Plan: A

The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. July 28, 2014. Some spoke a little english and translated to the rest of group. They were a lovely bunch of people and very happy, it seemed, because the sun was shinning and they lived in France. And who could blame them, France is an amazing place to cycle, it’s no wonder they have the Tour de France. 8221; Couldn’t argue with that! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. Back to the future. June 7, 2014. Leaving the airport we got lost and ended up on the multilane Autopitsa (not the only time in our travels through Spain) which was off limits to bikes. We got over our jet lag and got ourselves ready for the ride to Barcelona. Why yes thank you, don’t mind if I do. The story of a water bottle making it’s way home →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The bicycle touring adventures of Trace and Dave. This is the end, beautiful friends. November 15, 2014. We’d zigged from Bordeaux to Switzerland and now it was time to zag our way back across the wonderfully French countryside to Paris. We said goodbye to the Swedish Cookies (Adeline and Sandra) and took a train back across the border to Dolé where we set up camp and waited for Steve (our Aussie friend now living in London) to join us. The UK was everything I remembered. We wandered the streets, dra...
