Cusco feels far warmer than Puno, and is certainly a lot nicer! Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to have a change of plan and could not go ahead with the original 4 day hike, so spent a couple of days trekking around Cusco and the surrounding hills (Thursday & Friday) before heading to the ‘Scared Valley’. Category Archives: Machu Picchu. We were up very early (4.30am) on Sunday to get the first bus up to the ancient inca site of Machu Picchu. We were lucky to get the second bus up to be in time to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu, which was absolutely stunning. The weather was perfectly clear and the site was almost empty at this time.
