Letters from Houston: A moment of levity
http://alexteaches.blogspot.com/2008/02/moment-of-levity.html
I teach bilingual fourth grade as a 2006 Teach For America corps member in Houston, Texas. Saturday, February 23, 2008. A moment of levity. One of the boys failed almost immediately because he was looking at the other side of the room, and the counselor took away a point. At which my low English student (a boy) yelled, in English, "Samuel, how could you do this to our team? Labels: Both the boys and the girls lost lots of points. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few other places. A moment of levity.

Letters from Houston: May 2007
http://alexteaches.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
I teach bilingual fourth grade as a 2006 Teach For America corps member in Houston, Texas. Monday, May 14, 2007. The end is in sight. Has it been successful? Wednesday, May 09, 2007. 11/22 pass writing (February)- this required passing both the grammar and the composition. 13/22 pass reading (April). 19/22 pass math (April). A little disappointing to me personally, but not horrible. Some kids cried, some kids jumped up and down. High-stakes testing does bad things to kids. Wednesday, May 02, 2007.
