Alison and Steve in China. Moving to Shanghai – the real story. Walks in the French Concession. The weather has taken a turn for the worse, and our walks over the last week have been a bit more of a challenge. They’ve still been very interesting, with lots to look at from under the umbrella. More lilongs, with added facilities – in this case, power, telephone, internet, air conditioning, parking. That’s a lot of buns! The hairdresser is very close to home, in the lilongs! Lots of food items to choose from.

Alison and Steve in China. Moving to Shanghai – the real story. Suzhou – otherwise known as the Venice of China. It was quite a warm day, and the gardens were very crowded. One thing that can be challenging in China is the number of people everywhere. Somehow, being in a tranquil garden setting is not quite the same when there are a few thousand people enjoying it with you. That said, the Humble Administrator’s Garden is very lovely. A lot of people were walking around eating these squid-on-a-stick.

Walking around today in the downtown area was very easy; cool, with occasional clearing of the smog to show blue sky, uncrowded sidewalks almost everywhere I walked. Alison and Steve in China. Moving to Shanghai – the real story. Out and about in Shanghai. Although Shanghai is a very modern city, you very occasionally see someone or something that looks as though it has stepped out of the past. Waking on Nanjing Rd one day, I saw this woman who must have been in the city visiting. We took a cruise on the Huangpu River in the evening. The boat took us along past the Bund area just as all the buildings were beginning to light up. Shanghai scooter modifications 🙂.

More adventures with dye. April 23, 2015. And I had another dye session last week, experimenting with different leaves, but we also broadened the subject matter, to include flowers, and added techniques – flower pounding and paste resist. I used some of the cloth I dyed with onion skins to over dye with indigo, with some quite striking designs. Folded and clamped with a plastic bulldog clip .
