A Librarian's Bookshelf

Sunday, October 11, 2015. ETL504 Assignment 2 Part B: Reflective Critical Analysis. This subject really enlightened my thinking by reading about all of the different leadership styles (BenBrocker, 2012, March 22; Marzano, Waters, & McNulty, 2005). I had not previously understood that there were that many different approaches to leadership (which is clearly illustrated in my first blog post. Mengel, 2015, September 26, 11:27). Through Leadership for Learning (Swaffield and MacBeath, 2008). I had not consi...

A Librarian's Bookshelf: May 2012

http://alibrariansbookshelf.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 27, 2012. ETL401 - A Reflection. When I began this subject for the first time in February 2011, I was fresh out of my undergrad teaching degree with a total of 6 months relief teaching under my belt. I knew that I had a passion for literature and sharing books with children and adults alike. It felt like it was a natural progression. From working in a bookshop and wanting to teach to teaching in a school library setting. Reading Purcell ( 2010. By exploring the plethora of hats. That the teac...

A Librarian's Bookshelf: November 2011

http://alibrariansbookshelf.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 28, 2011. Post-literacy causing the end of school libraries? All this discussion about a post-literate society has gotten me thinking. A few months ago, I went to the UK to visit some friends. My friends twin boys, who are 12 and at the end of their first year of high school, are not big readers. One of the boys has dyslexia and struggles to make text work for him. What amazed me though was how many books and the level of the material that these two boys were getting through. If only the...

A Librarian's Bookshelf: September 2011

http://alibrariansbookshelf.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 8, 2011. Reflecting on my school libraries. Now that the first assignment has been submitted, I think it is time to reflect on my memories of school libraries. I vividly remember the library and librarian, Mr Arthur, from my first school. It was in a separate building of its own, joined to the rest of the school via closed tunnel. It was split across three and a half levels with walls covered by student artworks and displays. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A Librarian's Bookshelf: S.T.E.E.P. Analysis

http://alibrariansbookshelf.blogspot.com/2015/10/steep-analysis.html

Friday, October 2, 2015. Lunch time student access to games, drawing materials, computers, and books. Recreational reading is encouraged during class library times. Some comfortable furniture for reading (highly sought after during class time and must be allocated to particular children to prevent squabbles). Small group desks to fit up to 20 students, computer benches are also utilised for class work desks. High levels of recreational reading within the school community. TV in library "classroom" area -...

Sunday, October 23, 2011. 2012 - National Year of Reading. Just got very excited when I discovered that next year is being dubbed National Year of Reading. Sounds like there are some fascinating events being prepared along with a nation wide moving exhibition of Alison Lester's original artwork for the book "Are We There Yet? Http:/ www.love2read.org.au. Also came across Good Reading. Magazine today. Looking forward to reading this months issue and hoping for a subscription for Christmas!

A Librarian | Anonymous Library-related Musings

Library Linked Data Milestones. A Librarian – This Blog. Library Linked Data Milestones. Today, I am thinking about linked data milestones. As libraries slowly ooze away from MARC and toward a more flexible linked data framework, what are the milestones that will mark actual progress, benefit to users, all that good stuff? Here’s a draft list. Some number of libraries consume that data. Let’s say a few dozen university libraries to start. So where’s the bottleneck? Endless obsessing over the data model?

Alibrariangirl's Weblog | Just another WordPress.com weblog

Just another WordPress.com weblog. January 9, 2015 by alibrariangirl. Or on my personal desk at work, either :-(. A few months ago I purchased a shelf and more boxes at IKEA. I assembled the shelf, assembled the boxes (with the help of a neighbor to save time), and organized a bunch of articles I have found through the years and refer to every-once-in-a-while. But did I complete that project? No There is still so much left to do! And there was help, of course :-). Enjoyed end of 2014. These two items wer...

A Librarian's Notes

Notes for 23 Things on a Stick. Monday, July 21, 2008. I am almost done. (OK, OK, I know I'm not really done learning.). I had a really hard time deciding my most favorite and least favorite "things". If I had to pick one favorite, it would probably be "Library Thing". I am having so much fun keeping my reading list on it. It was interesting to see that many people got stuck in the same areas that I did as well. What a great way to move all Minnesota libraries forward! As an administrator, I believe it h...
