A Life Beyond Money: A Cheaper Cup O Joe
http://alifebeyondmoney.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-cheaper-cup-o-joe.html
A Life Beyond Money. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. A Cheaper Cup O Joe. Drink regular coffee instead of espresso-based drinks to save a buck or two on purchase prices. Remember that frozen blended drinks are almost entirely half and half. Hopefully the caloric horror will be enough to convince you to order the regular joe. Look for coupons in the paper. Once, I found a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a chain coffee house near my house. I raided the recycling bin for several more coupons and got ch...Ask a...
A Life Beyond Money: Salvage Grocery Shopping...take 2
http://alifebeyondmoney.blogspot.com/2014/10/salvage-grocery-shoppingtake-2.html
A Life Beyond Money. Thursday, October 23, 2014. Salvage Grocery Shopping.take 2. Yesterday we went to our favorite salvage grocery store since we were in town (It's 1.5 hrs away, but only 10 minutes from my family). We stocked up on a lot to make winter grocery bills more manageable, especially since we aren't sure how often we'll be able to make the trip once the roads are nasty. Soon to the scores! I'm including the price we'd pay at the regular store with smart shopping using sales and sometimes coup...

http://alifebeyondmoney.blogspot.com/2015/04/avoiding-frugal-burnout.html
A Life Beyond Money. Friday, April 10, 2015. Plan ahead to avoid this. Frugal burnout happens to the best of us, but doesn't have to set you back in saving for your goals. What are your favorite ways to prevent frugal burnout? April 11, 2015 at 4:25 AM. April 11, 2015 at 7:21 PM. This is sound advice for sure. As a seasoned veteran of frugal living I have learned from experience that we need these tiny indulgences to meet the big goals. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Life Beyond Money: Getting Fit Without a Gym
http://alifebeyondmoney.blogspot.com/2012/03/getting-fit-without-gym.html
A Life Beyond Money. Thursday, March 29, 2012. Getting Fit Without a Gym. Now that the weather is nice, I'm starting to think about wearing bikinis and tank tops, so of course I'm thinking about the winter weight that always seems to creep up. With that, here are some ways that you can get/stay in shape for free or really cheap. Walk around the neighborhood. I like to go for power walks with a friend and talk rather than go out for coffee. Swim at the beach. Go hiking at a park. Community centers have lo...
A Life Beyond Money: Weird Composting
http://alifebeyondmoney.blogspot.com/2014/01/weird-composting.html
A Life Beyond Money. Sunday, January 19, 2014. I compost as warfare. The battle is against climate change and landfills and big business that promises to solve all of our problems if we just open our wallets. Our consumptive society buys with abandon and then throws "away". Composting fights this mindset and creates a new one. When I have to look at food that goes bad before I eat it, I am more mindful to not waste food. Toilet paper tubes. I just cut them up a bit. Coffee grounds and filters. Dustpan co...

Sage Alley: May 2015
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 22, 2015. Brick Dust: Spring Brings Changes. Our beautiful sage bush. Spring brings change, and around here, there's a lot of change happening! While we don't live on an alley, we are in the suburbs, surrounded by concrete and asphalt and apathy. Our yard is tiny (though we do get a lot out of it! And traffic sounds are a constant. I also just like the way "Sage Alley" sounds as a writer. Just another afternoon at home. Also in are kohlrabi and beets. No tomatoes or peppers this year. We are ...
Sage Alley: July 2015

Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Brick Dust: Ceiling Prep, How I Am Holding Up. Holy chaos, Batman! This is the inside of our new ceiling. It looks kind of crazy, because electrical is just roughed in right now, but the fact is that our lighting is going to be kind of involved. (Recessed lights. Lots and lots of recessed lights! It's a good idea to do this when you're building, because when something goes wrong, it'll be easier to tell. To go back to work until August 1 or so. I have signed up with several te...

Sage Alley: January 2015
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Brick Dust: Winter Update. First snow of 2015. Just some bits and scraps from the past few months. Life has definitely not been boring for us at the Little Stone House! Ultimately, our garden did not fare all that well this year. As I've said many times, I attribute it to the weather. That said, my partner has decided that we will not continue to grow tomatoes at our current location. The yield was down in 2013 and absolutely abysmal. Doing my twice-a-year raw cleanse this month...
Sage Alley: Beet Ravioli
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2015/02/beet-ravioli.html
Friday, February 13, 2015. My version of the beet ravioli. This was my second attempt at raw cuisine, and let me tell you what: These blew the stuffed peppers away! This delicious recipe came from the book, Raw Food Real World. By Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis. The filling and sauce provide tons. Of protein and good fats from nuts: cashews, pine nuts, and pistachios. This is the best cashew "cheese" I've tasted yet! Amazing, if you have the right recipes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sage Alley: December 2013
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 5, 2013. Not the stray kitty. This is one of my cats, Fujiko. Fuji was rescued en route to a kill shelter in 2003.). Life is never dull at the Little Stone House. It's been a crazy year for my family, and we've got some kitty health drama (not serious and on its way out), and life just goes on! A few weeks ago, we had a friend over, and he pointed out that we had a black and white cat that seems to like to cut through our yard. This was over a month ago. A couple of weeks before. I app...
Sage Alley: June 2014
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 1, 2014. Ready to Get a Little Personal. I have commented once or twice in the lifetime of this blog that I try to avoid getting too personal on my public blogs. Well, I think I'm ready to, mainly because it will explain the sporadic nature of my postings here. Truth is, I love this and my other blogs, and I feel terrible. When I can't share my photos, tips, and insights with my wonderful readers! My life's journey (and indeed those of my other family members! Finally, my little adoptee.
Sage Alley: Caring for a Pet Remotely
http://sagealley.blogspot.com/2015/05/caring-for-pet-remotely.html
Thursday, May 14, 2015. Caring for a Pet Remotely. At home, stating that when she takes Mama to stay with her, Mama hides a lot. This is someone we've trusted with Mom's pets for years, so I took what she said to heart. It has worked out fine. We are hoping that this situation will be remedied soon. I'm working with the nursing home to find out when Mom can go home, so we can get Mama on a more stable schedule with more company and more activity in her day. Most times, we're only gone 5-6 days, really.

A Life Bewhiskered | Observations of a cat owner
Observations of a cat owner. And Then There Were Three. Smeagirl, Zé and Mr. Spock. This is Smeagirl. She came to us in an awful state: ill, infested with everything imaginable and starving hungry. I don’t know if she followed one of the boys home, or if someone left her for us, but I found her mewling outside our house one day. This was back in May. We took her in, fed her, nursed her back to health…and then couldn’t let her go! From → Photos - Smeagirl. Oh, it’s been so long! From → Photos - Spock.
