Michael the Girl: March 2006
http://michaelthegirl.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
I learned something very important watching. Apparently movie critics were the people most affected by the Sept. 11 attacks. The reviews for this film were vicious, idiotic and pointless (Just keep reminding yourself that the NYTimes gave the Beatles a bad review the first time out, and your head won't explode). I'm going to go see. X-Men III, Lucky Number Slevin. Which all look like tré awesome riffs on genre and tropes. And at least one of them has Josh Hartnett in a towel. Yum.). But that doesn't acco...

Michael the Girl: September 2007

I lo-oove internet sentence contests. Need an anonymous net denizen to create a slogan, headline, or haiku (I'm crap at limericks), and I'm your girl. There's something really nice about writing something short and sweet with near instant gratification. My first brush with the internet sentence contest culminated in a Jack Shafer article for Slate. And finally, Michael Dobbs. Devoted his pop-music energies to the new-hed [headline] generation contest with these submissions:. Posted by Mike @ 9:29 PM.

Swim Against the Grain. A Blog About Writing, Thinking, Making Stuff and Mixing Metaphors. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Books are Theme Parks. Some of it has to do with physical design of the place. Like, did you know that the bricks on Cinderella's castle are slightly smaller as you go higher up the towers? What does this have to do with books and writing, you may ask? Today, as I was reviewing Louis Sachar's Holes. It suddenly hit me: books are theme parks. In the case of Holes. Is all about the expe...

http://swimagainstthegrain.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Swim Against the Grain. A Blog About Writing, Thinking, Making Stuff and Mixing Metaphors. Friday, February 26, 2010. Which brings me to the point of this post: lately, I've also become oddly obsessed with poetry. I've been reading it compulsively (which I never. Did before) and even- dare I say it? I'm sure you're wondering what has made me reconsider my aversion to verse. That's easy. It was this poem: Introduction to Poetry. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Book as Experience- Week 3: Space, Part 2. Size re...

Swim Against the Grain: Beware the Ides of March
http://swimagainstthegrain.blogspot.com/2010/03/beware-ides-of-march.html
Swim Against the Grain. A Blog About Writing, Thinking, Making Stuff and Mixing Metaphors. Monday, March 15, 2010. Beware the Ides of March. To the Soothsayer] The ides of March are come. Ay, Caesar, but not gone. Shakespeare ( Julius Caesar. Some may find the Ides of March depressing. A death-day of sorts. I, however, find this day empowering, as a day when I can bite my thumb at all the naysayers to my writing life. If it's such a pain in your backside, why not take up something you like better? And to...
