Alisdair's Data-Blog

Wednesday, 1 January 2014. PostgreSQL Exercises launch reflections and open-sourcing announcement. A couple of weeks ago I decided to launch my on-off side project of the last 15 months, PostgreSQL Exercises. People generally liked the site. I’m appropriately filled with warm fuzzies :-). I launched with a couple of known design flaws (particularly the fact that it wasn’t obvious where to find a schema diagram). These were picked up on rather rapidly! Part of me is tempted to move a bit more of the styli...

Alisdair's Data-Blog: RDF storage and modern computer architectures

http://alisdairo.blogspot.com/2009/09/rdf-storage-and-modern-computer.html

Monday, 28 September 2009. RDF storage and modern computer architectures. Modern computers are complicated beasts. Most of us probably still work with a simple model in mind: slow secondary storage for bulk data and persistence (usually a hard disk), and fast random access memory for working data and program instructions, which are sequentially executed in the CPU. For day to day programming this is perfectly adequate for getting things done. When we encounter a request that cannot be satisfied from a ca...

Alisdair's Data-Blog: Introduction

http://alisdairo.blogspot.com/2009/09/introduction.html

Thursday, 24 September 2009. Welcome to my new blog. It's dedicated largely to my work on my PhD at the University of Southampton, with perhaps a smattering of general interest and personal info as well. My previous projects are summarised on my web page here. And includes work on distributed RDF stores and RDF dataset characterisation. Over the next few weeks I'll put up some posts explaining what I've been up to both in the past and recently. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Alisdair's Data-Blog: Reverse execution in GDB

http://alisdairo.blogspot.com/2009/09/reverse-execution-in-gdb.html

Thursday, 24 September 2009. Reverse execution in GDB. So, not exactly the promised post about my work, but how incredibly useful is this? New GDB allows reverse execution. 2 November 2009 at 19:10. Totally awsomely incredibly useful! Heres a gdb reverse debugging tutorial:. Http:/ www.sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/ProcessRecord/Tutorial. 4 November 2009 at 16:13. Fab Thanks for the link, and really nice work :-). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Reverse execution in GDB.

alisdairo's Journal

Most Recent Entries] [Calendar View]. Below are the 20. Most recent journal entries recorded in alisdairo. Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009. Bloody hell. I've been playing with the probably soon-to-be-defunct NetBeans. A Java IDE that's actually entirely sane, and works the way I'd expect it to. With SVN integration AND profiling that doesn't require you to install a user-hating plugin. Clearly there must be something wrong with it, I'm just yet to discover it. Friday, March 13th, 2009. A really fantastic video.

I am Alisdair Rankine. I am a software developer mainly dealing with the web. I work as a developer in the eCommerce industry. Currently I am working on a number of exciting projects including a web trading game, a simple task management suite and some other things I don't want to unveil yet :D. I have a child-like imagination and as you can see from my decor, although I have thought about changing it. I think this site is ready for a redesign, but i havent got a design i like yet. I'll get to it!

On Yer Bike

A day at the races. Yesterday I headed down to Lygon Street to watch the final stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour-2009 and catch a glimpse of Bradley Wiggins (Garmin-Slipstream). Wiggins started the stage in yellow, and had team-mates in second and fourth. The question wasn't so much would a Garmin rider win but which one. Wiggins finished ninth on the day, which was good enough for him to seal his first multi-stage race win. In addition to the GC, Garmin won the KOM and Teams classification. Cobbles - T...
