Monday, October 27, 2008. This Saturday's trip was to Kairouan. Before heading out to Kairouan, my roommates and I asked our host mom what we should expect. She explained to us that Kairouan was the fourth holiest city in Islam (following Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem). It is the holiest city in all of North Africa. We indulged ourselves in many straw basket and I was finally able to bargain using those magic words “But, today is my birthday! We spent a little more time around Gabès meeting with some professors from the area that had once spent some time at Oregon State and visited the neighborhood of Chenini-Gabès. Posted by Anna Rae.
