i bought a little city

Monday, June 24. Than a month has passed, but here's the ending to my story: I didn't finish my marathon. It still sort of feels like a bad dream. I did all the work. I didn't show up on race morning unprepared- no, I did 18 solid weeks of training. 18 weeks of speed, long runs, tempos and high mileage. I tapered properly. I hydrated, I woke up early, I was mentally strong. What I wasn't ready for was the weather. WHY SPRING, WHY? They said, cackling. Bitches. This was my guardian angel! This race was su...

i bought a little city: December 2011

http://www.alittlecity.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 16. My recent running life:. October 16: ran a half-marathon. October 16-28: no running. Mostly sitting. Nay, all sitting, all the time. October 29-November 23: gradual return to training in preparation for this year's Egg Nog Jog, a fun run in the boonies I've been doing since I was 15. Starting adding hill work to the mix. November 24: pain in my shin. GAME OVER. For real this time. Already peeing my pants. Harry's in High Park in April (I can walk there from my house! For Me, For You.

i bought a little city: Egg Nog Jog 2012

http://www.alittlecity.blogspot.com/2012/12/egg-nog-jog-2012.html

Sunday, December 23. Egg Nog Jog 2012. This is the type of race that makes your flaws glaringly obvious. It beats you down. It makes you weak. Every time I cross the finish line I swear I'll never run it again, but I keep coming back. This year I wanted to beat it back. I wanted to go under 55 minutes, and I wanted to place in my age category. I wanted that computer print-out SO BAD. Time in the bank. An 8 minute PR during my off-season? i bought a little city: July 2012

Wednesday, July 4. But then there's this other thing that's been slowing me down, and does it even need to be stated? In the winter I started experiencing high blood sugars after each run, ended up pumping myself full of insulin and still losing. Now, a season later, I'm facing low blood sugars at every turn. Crying in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Crying in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Yes, really. That girl was me. At my diabetes a lot, a dozen times a day, and it never gives me any answers. And then I ran on Mon...

Thursday, April 19. On Losing the Marathon. I lost the marathon today: I registered for the half instead. I gave it up, more like. Thanks for the fitness and improved pace, marathon training. We were good for a while there. But I was pushing you way too much, I know. We gotta take this easier. Of course not. I'd beat myself up. All that training would be for nothing. Deep down, I know I have a 3:55 or even 3:50 first marathon in me. I need to work for just a little bit longer to get it out. I'd get throu...

The past 6 months in photos. My life in photos. So much happened in the past six months that I never wrote about! But that was then, and this is now, and I am trying to become (or at least let my blog make it seem like I’m becoming) one of those people that is good with the present. And so instead of romanticizing those past six months, and also because I feel sort of out of words today, here are some pictures to sum up all that happened. I should be doing the dishes right now. 2 Find time for walks.

Larr; i should be doing the dishes right now. But stop right there! This belief is exactly where my problems lie. Don’t you see! I’ve always let dichotomies rule my life more than they should. This either-or syndrome dominated much of my thinking growing up, and still continues to guide too many of my actions these days. The most obvious example? My inability to blog. Canadian Love Song. It was Aaron’s birthday last week and we had a few friends over to celebrate his special day. I attempted to make Jayscakes and then we turned the music up high and played all our favourite songs and danced late into the night, all the while saying goodbye to his 26th year and hello to his 27th. Nails today, gone tomorrow. So I got my O.P.I Axxium manicure off at Tips Nail Bar. After the Axxium was removed, I opted to get a natural manicure as seen above. I’m wearing Chanel’s “ Riva. My name is Lisa and I’m a twenty-something living and working in Toronto. Writing this “About Me” has been a surprisingly tough experience filled with many deletes and start-overs. I refer to it as surprising and tough because my last blog. Was only ever personal, almost too much so. Although this blog will still be personal because I can’t help but share, it will also be less about just me, and more about some of my favourite things*. Larr; the past 6 months in photos. I should be doing the dishes right now. I should be doing the dishes right now (how domestic of me), but I have some questions floating around and a desire to write them into words first (! But with being almost twenty-six, I also realize there’s a lot that’s changed in my life in the past couple of years, and I don’t yet know if these changes are good or bad. 2 Find time for walks. 3 Express and Create, OR Do More Than Sit in My Office Chair All Day. Crazy with a side of crazy. Tuesday, May 7, 2013. I've always believed that everything happens for a reason. So when i didn't get the job that I really, really wanted after graduating I assumed it was because something amazing was coming my way instead. Shortly after I received a call from an old coworker and viola! I was graduated and employed and ready to make shit happen. So here I am employed in the worst job I think I have ever had. Why is it the worst? Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Have you seen me?

A Little City Kitchen. My Favorite Food Blogs. Blue Cheese and Walnut Soufflés. To start I toasted a little more than 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts until they were golden brown.
