Cape Deaf ist die Abkürzung für die Cape Coast School for the Deaf and the Blind – die Schule in der ich ein Jahr mit gehörlosen Kindern arbeiten werde. Die Schule besteht aus einem Kindergarten als Vorschule, der Primary School (Grundschule) und der Junior High School (weiterführende Schule). Sonntag, 22. Januar 2012. Hier einen kleinen Einblick in die ghanaische Küche. Einen Großteil der folgenden Gerichte haben wir gemeinsam mit unserer Koordinatorin bereits selber gekocht! Reis kochen. Zwiebeln in einer Pfanne andünsten und Zwiebelröhrchen, Karotten, Gemüsebrühe hinzugeben. Anschließend Kohl und einige Esslöffel Sojasauce hinzufügen. Mittwoch, 2. Mai 2012. Schluss mit Ferien, die Schule ruft! Mit einigen Motivationsschwierigkeiten machten Gesine und ich uns heute Morgen pünktlich um kurz nach sieben auf den Weg zu Cape Deaf. Nach einem fast einstündigen Schulweg kamen wir endlich an. Tja, und was empfing uns? Nichts. Keine Kinder, keine Lehrer, verschlossene Klassenzimmer. Bücherei, ganz klar. Ehemals Hauptstadt der britischen Kolonie an der Goldküste, war sie einst das Sklavenhandelszentrum Westafrikas, von dem auch noch das Cape Coast Castle zeugt. Cape Coast hat etwa 150.000 Einwohner und ist in Ghana für seine Bildungsinstitutionen bekannt. Sprache der Region ist Fante (Mfantse). Unser Haus vor der Renovierung.
