All ducks – never in a straight line. I know for a fact that parents gushing on about the genius quotient of their child can be the most annoying thing in the universe. I used to be on the receiving end of ‘news’ such as ‘today he said “poo” and then he laughed out loud like it was some fabulous joke. hahahaha! 8217; At which I would smile (rather grimace like on my unemtional face) and say something equally vapid like ‘aaah’ or ‘awww’. All ducks – never in a straight line. Warm in the cold. We have our first major cold emergency in the duck house. With a tiny red cheeked runny nose duck as the main victim. Duckling is miserable and that pretty much means we are all getting little sleep while we fend off the cold with medication, reams of tissue, inhalation, vapourisers, not to mention oranges, tea and sympathy. From that first scan (which looks like a smudged poloroid of the inside of a wallet to everyone but these besotted to be parents) to the passport sized picture of you we got this Sunday (in which your open mouthed smile of all 5 teeth and your baby curls take up centerstage) it has been a heart thudding year. S and I crossed 10 years of marriage, which obviously got us thinking of notching things of the bucket list. South america had always been on the cards, but it never happened. We decided 10 years should warrant making it happen. So of we flew to Peru, with only two backpacks worth of clothes, which was a miracle given my inability to travel light. We had an early summer this year with temperatures reaching the mid 20's as early as April. My favourite memory of that month was a week long trip to Tuscany. We went with friends to a picturesque little village called Poppi. A room with a view. Mandarin ducks at the Isabella Planatation. A day spent with both the A's exploring portobello. This that and the other. Tuesday, 20 October 2009. Diwali this year was all about:. Food; we had a delicious menu of kalmi. Sweets.It was a meal that will make me pay in inches. Friends old and new; Diwali. Started with four friends and then ended up with ten, all the more fun, noise and chatter. Firecrackers; it was a small display but it was entertaining, reminiscent of childhood pattakas. We had sparklers, dodgy chakras. Knocking on the door. Tea lights; they were in every little diya. A form of Indian.

This that and the other. Saturday, 20 June 2009. On June 16' Th. S and I crossed the 7 year mark without an itch in site. It doesn't feel like 7 years. Possibly because our first 3 years were spent more like students living together. What can I say, so far the rides been awesome and I know it can only get better.
