Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Thursday, January 28, 2010. FLASHBACK NUMBER ONE - ¡Quinceañera! And the guests began to slowly trickle in. Each day, the excitement about the party inched higher and more faces showed up to lend a hand. Lucky for me, those faces soon included my mom and brother. :). Links to this post. Mom and Mike´s visit. Thursday, January 14, 2010. San Juan del Sur. I hopped on a chicken bus to San Juan del Sur. Chicken bus, you say? Links to this post.

Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Tuesday, March 30, 2010. I promise I haven´t disappeared forever. I´m just in a small war with my jump drive, attempting to wrestle away my photos and pre-typed entries. When I win, you guys are in for some serious reading. Think Nicaragua, another cabelgata, making sugar, and how to make biogas. :). Links to this post. Thursday, March 11, 2010. Recipe to Cure Homesickness. 2 cups plus 2 Tbs all-purpose flour. 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1-1 1/2 cup...

Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. My favorite kind of parties in or around La Ribera have always revolved around the community getting together and showing off horses. My last weekend, I finally got the chance to see a different kind of event: corriendo cintas. To compete in this challenge, members of the community attempt to snag tiny metal rings off of a hanging wire as they gallop past at full speed. Difficult to say the least! Links to this post.

pura vida: Visiting Changena
http://ccwincostarica.blogspot.com/2010/08/visiting-changena.html
Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. We fed and herded the cows, searched for carvings left behind by previous indigenous owners, picked avocados, and got absolutely soaked by the faithful afternoon thunderstorm. Evenings were spent teaching two adorable little siblings American card games, catching up on the latest telenovelas, and watching the mixed flock of {free range woohoo! Turkeys, chickens, and ducks pick their way over the front yard.

Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Thursday, October 29, 2009. In the mornings I usually work the garden with Luz, my host mom. She has two covered gardens from which she feeds the family and cuts herbs and vegetables to sell at the market. There is lots of weeding to do - Costa Rica reminds me a little bit of New Orleans in that way. It´s very fertile land, so everything. And the second half. I planted the tiny cilantro in the bottom left corner. Links to this post. I said...

Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. On Being a Macha/Chela Muchacha/Chavala. Unacceptable. So, I started to try and adapt. A couple examples of things I picked up:. Cool as in chill. Cool as in awesome. Nicaragua: diacachimba, salvaje, bestial. Costa Rica: chiva, pura vida, tuanis. Cool as in a cool person, or as in "he's good people". Costa Rica: pura vida, buena gente. Something that reminded me of New Orleans,. Ie you heard me? Nicaragua: chela, chele.

Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Since I went to Dominical. I had been hearing from beach bum after beach bum that Santa Teresa was one of their favorite beaches. So, I set off from Nicaragua toward the sand. More on what I've been up to in the next post, but for now, take a look! Lots of driftwood around here for perching and lounging. Millions of teeny shells. Posing with a big thorny tree while on our quad expedition. Lol, love the surfboard face!

pura vida: One Last Waterfall
http://ccwincostarica.blogspot.com/2010/08/one-last-waterfall.html
Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. I spent, in all, about six months in La Ribera. But I never stopped discovering new things in and around the area. Example: the stunning waterfall I visited my last weekend there. It plummets 125 meters - way beyond anything I've seen in the States. And it does so not twenty minutes from the home of a family friend. View from the tippy top - check out the road below! pura vida: All Good Things....
http://ccwincostarica.blogspot.com/2010/08/all-good-things.html
Adventures in Travel, Agriculture, and Striking Out On My Own. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Coming back to Finca Chinchilla before I travelled home was always my plan. My experience in Costa Rica was shaped more by my family there than by anything else, and I couldn't imagine not ending my trip in their company. Those three weeks passed in less than a heartbeat. I woke up every morning feeling a bittersweet pressure to soak in every drop of each moment I had left, but still felt that the sun set before...
