Annnnnd we’re back! After five days of hiking and exploring Utah’s canyons, we’re back in Golden with lots of pictures and more than a little red dirt stuck to everything we own. It feels good to be showered, ok to be back inside, and not-so-great to be back on the grid: connected to everyone and everything instantly. Growing up, gubbins were what was left on your plate after you had just eaten, say, a taco and a good amount fell out of the shell prior to entering your gob. They were the extras, the little bits that you wouldn’t really miss if you scraped them into the trash, but what my parents insisted I eat. As in, “Eat your gubbins! 8230;with the occasional vacation or funny story about our pup, Gulliver, thrown in for good measure.

Last weekend, during a break in the rain/snow/sleet storms I trudged up there again with Jordan, Alistair, and Gulliver. For once, I was introducing Jordan to something new, as he hadn’t seen it before! Gulliver was the most daring of us. He ventured out onto the wall for a closer look. Silly / serious juxtaposition. Our Trip, in a Nutshell. I was wrong. Within seconds his mouth overflowed with the thick, sweet, icy goodness. At first, he had a look of surprise, wonder even. But, that quickly passed way to crying. He hadn’t eaten anything cold before! Oops Luckily for me, he was quick to forgive my oversight. Monday morning we rolled out of St. George, kicking off our mini-roadtrip / camping adventure. I’ll write more detail later, but this was our route:.
