Abortion arguments and the kidney theft legend | that's almost right
https://alltoosimple.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/abortion-arguments-and-the-kidney-theft-legend
That’s almost right. But there are a few things. Laquo; Most annoying component ever. For thee but not for me. Abortion arguments and the kidney theft legend. Bear with me here. Conversely, is it OK, once you wake up and find yourself entangled in tubing with a violinist staring at you with his artistic, deeply soulful eyes, to pull the IVs out and condemn him to death? Republicans are still running on deficit reduction, but as the election nears, their governing agenda reveals something that close observers recognized all along: Deficit reduction was never the point. That’s almost right. But there are a few things. Oh, and I also learned that the mini-hyena drive gear is brilliant for an extrude that’s well tuned, but once you start slipping you’re going to need acetone or fire or who knows what to get the ground-up filament out of those sharp little grooves. Banks Paying Cash to Homeowners to Avoid Foreclosures (via eschaton). As long as the bank makes more money by getting a sale through now, it makes business sense for them to share that increment with the homeowner. So why haven’t banks been doing this all along? Homomorphic Encryption Breakthrough - Schneier on Security
https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2009/07/homomorphic_enc.html
Last month, IBM made some pretty brash claims about homomorphic encryption and the future of security. I hate to be the one to throw cold water on the whole thing - as cool as the new discovery is - but it's important to separate the theoretical from the practical. Unfortunately - you knew that was coming, right? Gentry estimates that performing a Google search with encrypted keywords - a perfectly reasonable simple application of this algorithm - would increase the amount of computing time by about a tr...

Cryptocat - Schneier on Security

I'm late writing about this one. Cryptocat. Is a web-based encrypted chat application. After Wired published a pretty fluffy profile. On the program and its author, security researcher Chris Soghoian wrote an essay. Criticizing the unskeptical coverage. Ryan Singel, the editor (not the writer) of the Wired piece, responded. By defending the original article and attacking Soghoian. Sometimes it's nice to come in late. EDITED TO ADD (8/14): As a result of this, CryptoCat is moving. 8226; 36 Comments. Do no...

Being the blog of Charles Stross, author, and occasional guests . Back to: Five reasons to envy the French. There's a deceptively simple question that's been bugging me this week, and it is this:. What is the minimum number of people you need in order to maintain (not necessarily to extend) our current level of technological civilization? There are huge political ramifications hiding behind this question. Let me unpack them for you. And as for your smartphone? Medicine: let's not go there. Back in th...
