Sunday, June 15, 2014. I'm not a minimalist. "Less is more" never applied to me when it came to verbal expression, color-coordinated accessories, lively acquaintances, wall collages, etc. It's just not my nature. Why, then, have I felt so compelled lately to simplify, to streamline, reduce, and minimize? I don't know because it is DEFINITELY not worth taking all the kids to the grocery store. I actually fantasize about our house burning down and of course our family is safe, but all our stuff is gone!

Monday, February 13, 2012. But actually it turns out I'm just really slow. Slow to figure out what I'm thinking. Slow to translate those thoughts into intelligible conversation. By the time I figure out what I want to say and how best to say it, the moment has usually passed. So I usually smile and agree, and that is that. Tuesday, March 6, 2012. I think about this scene at least once a day, and it's not because I hate it here. It's just so true. For anyone who's spent any time in the American south, you know what's up. For those who haven't, let me just relate to you a few observations/incidents I've been witness to that have both delighted as well as given me pause:. It's called Hardee's down here. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this, but I was unprepared for it nonetheless. It's called Cupcakes Y'all.
