Observations of an Almond Farmer
http://almondfarmer.blogspot.com/2015/07/it-is-4th-of-july-and-i-am-organizing.html
Observations of an Almond Farmer. Day to day observations of almond farming in the central valley of California. Saturday, July 4, 2015. It is the 4th of July and I am organizing the many photographs I have taken over the last several months. These pictures were taken last January. As we endure the 100 degree days of a typical valley summer, it is with some longing that I remember the cool winter day when this train passed by a pumping station under construction. Observations of an Almond Farmer. Day to day observations of almond farming in the central valley of California. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. These nuts are at the early stages of hull split. I can find an occasional open hull, but mostly on the edges of orchards. Very hot days are predicted for the next week so I expect hull split will progress rapidly. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). These nuts are at the early stages of hull split. . Grown by JParker. Picture Window template. Powered by Blogger.

http://www.bluesierrafarms.com/2014/09/its-a-tractor
We're not CRAZY, We're NUTS! August 21, 2016. September 10, 2014. It’s a TRACTOR! It’s not this clean anymore. As we looked at the tasks that were piling up around the ranch it became apparent that a tractor was a necessary tool. We had a long list of things that needed to get done for the walnuts, some trees/stumps that needed to be removed from the orchard and some tasks around the house. After a lot of shopping and considering the options we ended up with a Kubota M59 Backhoe. We’ve Got Water! We are ...

We have been testing our well each year to keep an eye on how things are going underground. Fortunately, our numbers for this year are very close to last year. So we get to irrigate one more year! We're not CRAZY, We're NUTS! August 21, 2016. March 19, 2015. The walnuts are in the ground! In February, just before the big rainstorm, we were able to get the new baby walnut trees in the ground. I have been a little remiss in updating the blog since we still have a lot of work to do to get water to them, but here is a photo of the planting. Once the trees are in the ground, someone comes along and pulls the tree up a bit to keep the roots straight and stomps around the tree to settle them in. We are t...

almond farming for the beginner
Almond farming for the beginner. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. They started blowing the Carmels from the tree rows on Sunday afternoon, finally. Yesterday they started the windrows right after the blower was done. The Carmel wind rows look very good. The trees are badly in need of water. I might be able to start the water on the whole orchard after the windrows are done. It depends on when they start picking up and loading the nuts. Monday, September 21, 2009. September 21, 2009.
